In the January 2009 issue of LEF magazine there is an article on bacillus coagulans. The main points they made about its effectiveness over other probiotics are:
  • survivability: due to the bacteria's ability to survive the manufacturing process and stomach acid and bile in high numbers.
  • colonization: ability of the bacteria successfully colonize the gut
  • lactic acid production: the bacterial is a prolific producer of the more beneficial isomer of lactic acid
They also cite three successful (but not yet accepted for publication) studies in which the bacteria has helped irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease, and even arthritis. All of these studies were from Ganeden Biotech. Unsurprisingly, LEF's product contains GanedenBC30™ (so, grain of salt, but don't throw out the soup).

Thoughts?
