I'd like to know how much sleep we imminsters get compared to the population average.

How many hours do you sleep on average?

Any past, present, or future polyphasic sleepers here?

I get 6-7 hours a night. As someone above said, 9 hours a night of sleep would be heavenly, but i can function without any noticed impairment on 6-7 hours of sleep on average.
So much for functioning well. Just lay my head on my arms to rest a little here at the computer's table; woke up 20 mins later by my sister entering the room

I tried polyphasic sleeping once. Physiologically it worked, but not as well as >7h normal sleep. The reason for me to completely drop it was because I couldn't fit it into my daily life schedule. Anyone have any idea if polyphasic sleep could be particularly healthy or unhealthy?

Interesting info. Doesn't the sleep cycle adjust to the offset after a while or something?
Huh. Why did I put this poll into the supplements section? Probably didn't get enough sleep for clear thinking. XD

What's interesting is that there are some extreme cases, of <5 and >10 hours.

The more people vote, the more gaussian the results look. :-)

I'm the <5 vote... averaging 4hrs per night. Trying to get back to 6.5... anything more than 8 and I feel like crap the next day.

Wow! You mean the Central Limit Theorem actually works as advertised! ;-)

On a more serious note, shouldn't we all try to get our amount of sleep to about 7 hours?

Increased Death Rate Associated
With Sleeping 8 Hours or More
I feel quite confident in saying this is wrong. Sleep however much you need, if you need more than 9 hours don't force yourself to sleep anything less than this. Your body knows what it needs, and if you go into a healthier state then you will need less sleep and feel just as well rested. Many people on CR (which improves health) report sleeping fewer hours. They can do this simply because they're healthier. Restricting sleep will increase mortality I think.

I don't know you can make the claim that people on cr sleep less because they are healthier. A more accurate statement in my opinion would be those on cr sleep less due to higher sympathetic tone.
