For some time now I could tell that my memory wasn't working as well as it used to. I am only 34, but there was a definite difference from how well I could remember things in my 20's, and how well I could remember them recently. Anyway, after experiencing one too many moments of confusion at the worst possible times, I figured I would try some Nootropics and find out if they could actually improve my situation some.

I started off with a couple blended OTC products that seemed to be the best I could find, based on what I read on this site and a few other places. This alone seemed to make a difference, but it also seemed to intensify moods.

Once my Piracetam arrived I started with an 'attack dose' of around 8000mg a day, for a week, combined with the OTC products. There were changes I could feel right away that were certainly not placebo induced. For example, on the second day I watched a DvD movie of 'Altered States', and could definitely feel a time slowdown effect. Very slight, but enough to where the details of the movie became more involved. Strangely enough, the movie was also more meaningful and powerful than the first time I watched it years ago. (On a side note, it also seems like bad movies are even worse..)

Another thing I notice is that I remember all my dreams now. On occassion I could remember them before, but now, I can think about what I was dreaming the last night, every day.

As for negatives, I have noticed a very slight headache now and then. I also sometimes get tired after taking it, but other times feel more awake. Odd, but I suspect it is related to getting the dosage right, which I dont think I have managed yet.

A more annoying side effect is the inability to forget things I would like to. From getting a song stuck in my head, ("Grandma got ran over by a reindeer") to thinking about how to handle certain problems at work. Whatever the thoughts are, there are more of them, or at least, I am more aware of them.

...

(I just figured I would share my experiences so far, since before taking them, I had a hard time finding more than just a few reports.) Additionally, my hydergine and deprenyl just arrived, so with a bit of luck, those will help even more.

Thanks for sharing your experience calli.

I love to read reviews like this because I just started taking a couple Nootropes last year and do not know much about them. I take Vinpocetine and Gingko, which are not the most powerful or widely used, but are naturally derived. Taking these have helped me think a little clearer and improved my memory somewhat. I also changed my diet a little. I eat less carbs and try to avoid refined sugar. All of these changes have made me healthier and happier.
