One thing I'd like to point out is that, should we managed "bend matter" to achieve absolute immortality, then time will have no meaning at all : in essence, through matter we can bend time, or even make it "stop", at least as far as we are concerned.
I personnaly consider time only through its effect - entropy - and so if we reverse entropy (or otherwise modify its rate) we can reverse (or change the "speed" of) time somehow.
I think time travel is impossible because it violates causality (yeah, I'm not very original here...) but what really matters is the effect of time on the universe. If you have full control over the matter in the universe, you can undo events without having to break causality.
Maybe that's why time can flow at different rates : because it's only dependent on own matter behaves. Maybe causality is the only thing there is, and entropy is what seems to give time a unique direction.
