near-perfect food, such thing does not exist I think.

the reason actually come from ourselves within. druing the evolution of human beings, we are wondering animals and those who can eat a variety of food have the greatest chance to survive. so gradually our body adapted to best fit a combination of variety of foods. therefore one single food is always not good as many foods. of course, maybe someday we will find one, but currently seems nothing like that and the chance of finding one perfect food is very low I think.
