'dmechanic' started using this method to make his cards run cooler, and to save energy costs.
I have just started doing that on one of my super hot 8800GT. So far so good.
The steps are:
1. Make a copy of your GPU BIOS file.
2. Edit it to take lower voltages.
3. Flash it back to the GPU.
You will need 2 tools:
1. nVFlash

Experiment with voltage dropped from 1.1V to 0.95V.
The GPU temperature stayed the same. I control the fan speed at a fixed 60% speed. Running the same project.
