I have had some anxiety issues for a long time myself. Bupropion(Wellbutrin) actually has a calming effect on me at doses of 150-300mg/day. It did cause some anxiety in the first week or two taking it, but after I adapted to it I actually felt more calm on it.
do you still find it effective as a psychostimulant (for mood, motivation, socialization) despite its calming effect? were i to try it, my plan was to not really exceed the doses you mention anyway
I've been using Bupropion for maybe six weeks now, and I'm still not sure what to make of it. It definitely gave me an "I don't give a fuck" kind of feeling. Any anxiety over future possible events is dissolved. Along with this I gained a lot of social comfort from it. Much like the way it lifted my general anxiety, my social anxiety also seemed almost completely gone.
I actually asked for the Bupropion because of a lack of enthusiasm, motivation, and energy. Some would say those issues define depression. Well the Bupropion did seem to help in this department as well, but not consistently. Some days I would feel "on" and others I would feel down. It was very cyclical and changed from day to day, and even sometimes during the same day. Maybe this was part of the adjustment to the medicine but it lasted for the entire first month. It only stopped when I began taking deprenyl along with it. I've been using deprenyl @ 2-6mg/day and Bupropion has been dropped to 150mg/day. I've been using this combo for over two weeks now and it's been great ever since. My need for caffeine has vanished since adding the deprenyl. Deprenyl is another one notorious for causing anxiety, and I experienced this with it at first also. Even 1mg(1 drop) used to make me restless. It didn't take long for that effect to subside though. I can now use 2mg doses a few times a day with no issues. My doctor wasn't too happy about me playing with these types of drugs, but he did add "If it's working, go ahead and keep using it."
