A refreshing change from the History Channel's usual blue collar reality shows, human extinction porn, Nostradamus specials, UFO hunts and the like:

http://www.history.c...pisodeId=464930

Is it possible to achieve eternal life? Some believe the first children who will live to the age of 1,000 have already been born. To find out how close humanity is to defeating death, we'll investigate plans to grow replacement body parts in labs, microscopic robots that could wipe out deadly diseases, and the possibility that aging itself can be reversed by taking a page out of one of history's darkest legends.

I'd really appreciate if this was shown in a less sensationalist channel such as Discovery Channel. I just hope the HC doesn't go too wild on the documentary.

I agree; the History Channel has really gone downhill lately. It's one thing when discuss subjects that aren't technically history, but when they start speculating that the Egyptian gods were actually aliens, you know they're desperate for material.

For some reason the History Channel now promotes the human extinction meme:

The Discovery Channel has a "softer" version of that called "The Colony":

I suspect the renewed popularity of Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged feeds off the related meme that humanity at our current numbers needs a serious pruning back to eliminate the people who don't meet some minimal standard of efficiency.

'Life After People' is such a weird, morbid show. If you show me a world where all of humanity is dead, the last thing I'll worry about is how long it would take for the buildings to corrode. If they're preocupied with the human extinction meme, I wish the History Channel make a show that discusses how to protect ourselves.

It wouldn't surprise me if we start hearing financial terms applied to a potential population collapse. In case nobody else has coined this phrase, I call the Dieoff "human deleveraging," for reasons which people who read Peak Oil blogs and websites should understand.

Aha, heres a topic on this, Ive been searching for one like it. Some of us saw this the other day and were chatting about it. It was really good. It didnt get all the details exactly right, but its a hell of a good wedge for the meme into the minds of everybody across the world that ends up watching it.

If anybody knows how to record it to the internet off of dvr then let the member derkee78 know.

The registered user derkee78, who you can find in the chat at imminst.org/tv - has it recorded on dvr and is looking for a way to transfer it from there to the internet. If you know of a way, or know somebody that knows a way, then let him know.
