Don't know about vinpocetine, but here's a summary of ginkgo biloba's effects on cognition (yes, it's ginkgo, not gingko).

Ginkgo used to be one of my more favorite noots, although I've used it last week for the first time in what seems like ages and ages.

Heck, I've got a real ginkgo leaf at home, the leaf of one of the most ancient wisdom trees is there to teach me :)

Vinpocetine is up there in the "I'll never take this again no matter what" category. I commented on it in that other topic about "Vinpocetine - Ditch it".

Just because you have read one post on a forum, that some random person has posted who you don't even know has said it's bad for you doesn't mean it is.
You shouldn't be so easily influenced by everything you read on the internet, especially on a forum.

My experience, vinpocentine is cheap and effective and harmless. The majority of people (not one person on a forum) say is has other health benifits too.

It is better than ginkgo which didn't do anything for me.

Vinpocentine is widely used in EU. Many research studies have to be done for the drug to get approved. It must be effective, however I have never used it.

Never tried vinpocetine, but ginkgo is reaaally good!
Instantly calming and creates brain / body symmetry in me (racing thoughts and radiant mind slows down and kind of blends together with the physical).
For me as a soft bipolar it´s a god send at times of sleep difficulties (often brought on by hyper excitation)
If my emotions are dulled and I feel depressed it sometimes picks me up in an instant.

I love Ginkgo and I believe the feelings are mutual =)

sir, it is not he who is claiming that vinpocetine is bad but the research (done by qualified people) which is claiming that vincpocetine is bad. Albeit even i am curious if it is good or not . but i guess it would be better to stay away from it

In my experience you can feel the effects of vinpocetine since it's a nootropic. You won't feel anything with gingko, even if you mega-dose (at least I don't).

What I wrote about vinpocetine is based solely on my own experience which happened about 4-5 years ago. Everybody tolerates substances differently since the brain is unique.

Not that it wasn't effective, just the side effects were unbearable and the mechanism of action too unpredictable.

i've never tried gingko but i've just started to begin using vinpocetine and i have not experienced any side effects (yet).
I take in small doses (10mg) once a day, every other day (which may explain for the minimal side effects?)
the nootropic effect of vinpocetine is noticeable (more calmer, slightly more focused, seems to enhance the effects of my piracetam regimen)

however, the research showing vinpocetine to be ultimately harmful is really beginning to worry me..not sure what to do.
maybe if I keep it at 10mg doses, i should be fine?

A recent study shows that Ginkgo has virtually no effects on cognition (at least in the elderly). Here is a link to the full JAMA article: http://jama.ama-assn...02/24/2663?home

I would not be bothered by that one vinpo study. Though, it wouldn't hurt to monitor yourself frequently while using vinpocetine. But this must be done with any nootropic in my opinion. Keep checking if problems like fatigue, depression, anxiety, paranoia, :) etc. are not developing or getting worse. In my case, I always note a DEcrease in my anxiety when taking vinpo. :)

Vinpocetine's effects seem to be very positive on you. It is very inexpensive and high quality is easy to obtain (OTC). So, if I were in your place, I would stick with it. :~

Ginko-biloba...pfff :) ... I have tried many different brands and have given them a lot of time to kick finally in. Despite of this, I have never experienced any effect of ginko.

Both of these, totally useless for me and i tried for a while. I went trough 3-4 bottles of Vinpocetine before reaching this final decision: useless.
Since i was always taking my vinpocetine with picamilon i never knew which one was doing his results.

Seriously im starting to think that except Piracetam and Modafinil all of this is pure placebo....there is just so much involved other than brain supplements when it comes to actual cognition and focus...

Well I have used Vinpo from time to time and got great results with it. Now i use it 3 to 4 times a week for enhancing brain metabolism and sharpening clarity of thinking. Plus it puts me in a serene state of focused alertness. The trick to avoid the side effects (low immune & other) is that i never take my Vinpocetine by itself and no more than 3 to 5 mg. I take it once in the morning with 2 caps of Green Super-food + 30mg of Ginkgo + Half capsule of Now's Super Antioxidants + 20mg of Now's Cat's Claw5000 + GNC Vitamin C 500mg + Now's ADAM multivitamin half tablet + additional B-Complex 25mg (Sometimes i add 5mg of CoQ10 & 5mg of Resveratrol to the mix as well). So this keeps away all the crappy side effects at bay. And the synergistic effect of Vinpocetine is way EXCITING than if taken alone! This is how i keep my vinpo on a tight leash :) I have changed many regimens in the past and this current one is working pretty good for now...i like it and will enjoy it while it last...LOL

The last thing in the world I am going to trust is a bunch of doctors who are tied to the whole pharmaceutical industry stranglehold, and their review of an herb! Want to know if Ginkgo works? Try it. It works for some people, and not for others (unlike similar herbs, Rhodiola for example, that seem to work for a broader spectrum of people). Personally, I take 240 mg of Ginkgo a day, enjoy it and believe I am getting a benefit.

Anyone who wants to know whether Ginkgo has an effect on the brain should try taking it before bed. Wow, what great, multicolored dreams!

Vinpocetine is the one which get my vote, it´s a subtle more direct effect comparing to ginko which I can not say i feel anyting off.
Can not feel the difference of not taking it and taking it.
Now I take both as I have about 40 grs of ginko in bulk.
Taking 60- 100mg, 1 to 2 times a day of ginko(try to aim at 80).
And 10mg of Vinpocetine, 1 to 2 times a day.
