Hi

A GP has prescribed me Keppra ( Levetiracetam ) 500mg thrice a day, and it causes sedation, memory impairment, irritability, and also insomnia.

It doesn't enhance my memory at all.

After being on it for a week, I got headache.

Levetiracetam is the only Racetam available in Australia through prescription.

Its use is for epilepsy ( anticonvulsant ), and off-label use is still under investigation in Australia, although many Anticonvulsants like Tegretol ( Carbamazepine ), Epilim ( Sodium Valproate ), Lamictal ( Lamotrigine ), etc. are indicated for Bi-polar, and sometimes for Neuropathic pain like Trigeminal neuralgia.

From this, I know that, not all Racetams are Nootropics ( cognitive enhancers ).

My question is :

Does Piracetam cause headache, arrhythmias and irritability ?

My 2nd question :

I had a private prescription of Piracetam 800mg 100tabs. When I asked the compounding pharmacy, it cost $150. Isn't it too expensive ?

I'll let someone with first-hand experience answer the first question.

The second question is easy: YES, almost 2 thousand dollars for a kilogram of piracetam is way too expensive. As a point of reference: 1200 mg x 100 tabs costs 8.90 € in Docsimon.com. That's about 74 € / kg.
