Hi,

My mother is 72 yrs of age and has started to become forgetful, has admitted she can not remember things and is in fear of what lies ahead.

She is on calcium supplements and cholesterol tablets from the Doctor as well as other different medication and takes Omega 3 and vitamin and mineral supplements.

Is there anything she could take that could help her with her forgetfullness?

Thank you in advance.

Google cholesterol lowering drugs or statins and q10. Ubiquinol is a better form of Q10 and the elderly can process it much better.
This is a good one

Try natural stuff otherwise (cholesterol). Oats is excellent, milk thistle has a bit of activity, alfafa possible.

Bowl of porridge every morning will help alot.

Some vitamin D3 + K2(MK4) would be very good with the calcium, and help with the bone strength.

Magnesium might help her.

CDP-choline might help with her memory

Diamond V XPC/Epicor helped my dad a lot. you should look into it.

Why not get her started on Piracetam? 1600mg 2 or 3 times a day over a couple of weeks should perk her up.

Extra virgin coconut oil and memory.

Dietary enrichment with medium chain triglycerides (AC-1203) elevates polyunsaturated fatty acids in the parietal cortex of aged dogs: implications for treating age-related cognitive decline.

I take 2-3 teaspoons of coconut oil a day. Its loaded with palmitic acid ( 8% ) which is good for memory.

I know of a few people elderly with sliding memory. To recommend good nutrition and supplements is under-the-radar; it's hard to get people to listen. And that's particularly hard with high sat fat coconut or MCT oil. Most people buy into defeatism, or only trust doctors.

I know people like this as well.  They'll take a fist full of pharmaceuticals a day but when you say something about a vitamin their heads explode.

Thank you all for the advice and suggestions.

She eats a bowl of porridge every day and tries to eat a healthy diet.

I mentioned the dangers of statins but as she is a retired nurse she goes with what the doctors tell her.

I had a free 10 day supply of COQ10 100mg that I asked her to try; she only took them because there was a picture of her favourite TV Doctor endorsing them.

All I can do is inform her of what I have found out and it is then up to her to make an informed decision.

I could try and hide things in her porridge or cranbery juice like she did with me when I was a child :p
