In Australia, Moclobemide is clasiffied as an antidepressant, and any GPs would happily write a prescription of it.

As with Selegiline, which is classified as an antiparkinsonism, it is a bit hard to come to the doctor's office and simply ask for it. ( I tried it many times, but all GPs that I visited were reluctant to prescribe it.....)

Aurorix ( Moclobemide) is a Reversible Inhibitor of Monoamine type-A. ( RIMA-A)
Eldepryl ( Selegiline ) is a Reversible Inhibitor of Monoamine type-B. ( RIMA-B)

Moclobemide, being a RIMA-A, inhibits the breakdown of Serotonin and Noradrenaline, in dosage below 450mg, ( it comes in 150mg and 300mg tablets), but in higher dosage, above 600mg, it also inhibits the breakdown of Dopamine and Phenylethylamine.
It has a half life of 2 hours in our bodies, but its inhibitory effect is reversed within 24 hours.

Selegiline is RIMA-B, inhibits the breakdown of Dopamine and Phenylethylamine, it has an active metabolite of amphetamine, but only works peripherally,so it does not give an "amphetamine-like action" in our brain ( CNS), rather, it causes jitteriness and restlesness as it works peripherally.

( I have never tried Selegiline, I know it by reading via internet, and through an personal life-experienced by my friend's father, who is prescribed Selegiline for parkinsonism, and I was surprised by his comment on this medication that he said it made him feel " unrest" and " jittery". As I know, it is reputed as "sexual enhancer", "memory booster" and most people taking it feel calm and good.........or maybe it is the liquid version ? ...well I have no idea at all.... is there a difference between the liquid and the pharmaceutical grade obtained from pharmacy ? )

I used Moclobemide at the dose of 2 tabs of 150mg in the morning, and another 150mg at 4pm. ( total 450mg/day)

After 3 weeks I noticed an improvement in mood, and I felt less anxious. It did not affect my sleep pattern, instead it increases my sleep quality.
At that dosage, 450mg/day, it did not lose its selectivity, so it required no dietary restriction for me.

However, I didn't notice any memory improvement at all.

Has anyone ever tried Moclobemide ? Does it increase memory function at all ?
