Hello everyone, I'm a uni student interested in testing the effects of nootropics on my studies. I've done some digging around on here and it looks to me like Modafinil is the way to go? I'm a maths based student taking exams not coursework this year so ideally I am looking for something that enhances memory, learning, concentration and logic regardless of the effect on creativity (as long as its not permanent.)

I'm not only interested in achieving higher performance in exams but also to retain the knowledge I have learnt and recall it well without nootropic help.

I've seen people take stacks of different nootropics but I'm guessing as a neewbie it's best to start with one or two for both experimentation and money issues.

As I said I'm thinking of going with modafinil (I've also read in the paper that this is the best that the writer had used on their review (the guardian news paper uk.)
Is it worth taking Alpha-GPC powder along with it?

Any advice or stories would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Rob

I'm not sure why you would need Alpha GPC for Modafinil, but it is always a good supplement to take. Anyways, I would go the nootropics route. I found that Modafinil did not much more than a cup or two of coffee, minus the harsh CNS effects. That said, I would spring for Aniracetam and/or Piracetam with Alpha GPC. The effects they produce are very subtle but creep up the more you use them. The only way you will really be able to tell a difference between a racetam mind and a non-racetam mind is to (assuming you are on a racetam schedule) stop taking the noots for a good month or two and you will notice the difference.

Anyways, I suggest Ani and/or Piracetam with A GPC if you want to go for lasting, yet subtle effects. Or if you want immediate results go for the Modafinil. I am unsure as to what effect it has on potentiating long term memory. Or if you want you could get both the Modafinil and -racetam +GPC. Up to you.

Do yourself a favor and first make sure you get diet, sleep and sprinting in order. Only after all this if you still feel like you want to experiment, slowly do so.

Just my 2c, but I switched from AlphaGPC to CDPCholine and haven't looked back. AlphaGPC is more effective per dose, but I don't think quantity of choline is a limiting factor of anything as long as you're supplementing with at least some. Choline is used to make acetylcholine as well as phosphatydl choline. Both AGPC and CDPcholine yield choline. However, CDPCholine is broken down to choline and cytidine. Cytidine is used to make a number of phosopholipids including phosphatydl choline. The bottom line is that the presence of cytidine is a limiting factor for a number of reactions, making CDPCholine a more complete supplement for choline related compounds.

These data show that exogenous cytidine, probably acting via CTP and the Kennedy cycle, can increase the synthesis and levels of membrane PC and PE in brain cells.

The synthesis of brain phosphatidylcholine may utilize three circulating precursors: choline; a pyrimidine (e.g., uridine, converted via UTP to brain CTP); and a PUFA (e.g., docosahexaenoic acid); phosphatidylethanolamine may utilize two of these, a pyrimidine and a PUFA. We observe that consuming these precursors can substantially increase membrane phosphatide and synaptic protein levels in gerbil brains. Alzheimer's disease brains contain fewer and smaller synapses and reduced levels of synaptic proteins, membrane phosphatides, choline and DHA. The three phosphatide precursors might thus be useful in treating this disease.

Also do yourself a favor and at least experiment with one of the 'racetams. I personally use Aniracetam + sulbutiamine + CDPcholine as my basic stack. I'm studying for the bar exam, so I'm basically in your shoes trying to accomplish the same thing.

Thanks for the advice guys, they've been real helpful. Looking at getting modafinil for hopefully an immediate effect + CDPCholine then ease into the Aniracetam and/or Piracetam for longer use along side the CDPCholine.
Anyone else with any helpful info keep them coming!
