Just read an interesting article:

I've read conflicting info on Neanderthal traits vs Cro-Mag, especially as to why the former went extinct. Inter-breeding or competition?
But since they were around 30,000 years ago, they probably had to have had a fairly modern and evolved genome. I wonder if there are any useful genotypes within the Neanderthal genome that would be useful to us today. I presume there must be samples of Neanderthal DNA around for us to compare. Has anyone bothered to sequence the full Neanderthal genome, or even the full Cro-Magnon genome which is supposed to be our direct ancestor?
What about those purported attempts to clone a woolly mammoth from frozen DNA samples? What's happening with that?
