The Immortal Cell One Scientist’s Quest To Solve The Mystery Of Human Aging, Michael D. West, Doubleday, ISBN 0-385-50928-6, 2003, 244 p.

This book is highly recommended. It describes a biotechnology Somantic Cell Nuclear Transfer (SCNT) also known as Therapeutic Cloning. The invention of this biotechnology will make possible to create tissue and organs in laboratory that are tissue compatible with the patient. In today's transplantation medicine the patient have to daily use immunosuppresant drugs like Ciclosporin A (CyA), Prednisolon and others with both short term side-effects and long term severe side-effects like cancer and others. This to avoid potential immune rejection of the transplant.

The book is written by Dr. Michael David West former CEO of Geron Corporation, former CEO of Advanced Cell Technology and currently CEO of BioTime Inc.

The book can be purchased at BioTime Inc website: http://www.embryome....a...1&cat=Books

This book is definitely a first read. If you consider reading only one book you should read this one.

Isn't SCNT pretty much dead now that iPS has come along?

It seems to me that you are more updated than me. I bought the book last year but it was written a few years before then. I think you are correct. Attached a cover of Science magazine 2008 where the breakthrough is covered.

Here's also an meeting where Dr. Michael D. West describes iPS and Regenerative Medicine 2.0
