I had started taking DHEA a couple of months back-250 MG per day. I was using it primarily for "vitality" reasons-not talking sexual vitality-just energy and possible weight loss.
I noticed my mood had gotten better as well while I was on it. I was more positive more often-didn't get the "lows".
I have gotten really depressed this week-I didn't realize that I had run out and stopped taking it. I didn't know how much of an effect it was having on my mood. I realized today what had changed (last week I was fine). The only difference was the lack of DHEA. I took some earlier and am already feeling better.

I am not sure if it helps me more than others because of my long history of caffeine abuse. I used to take no doz like it was going out of style. Didn't realize that it could have negative long term effects on my mental health.
Anyone else had positive experiences on DHEA?

How old are you? Just curious if this is a factor in DHEA's potential beneficial effects.

Indeed it might do. You are using high dose and a small amount will convert to testos.

You will experience "shutdown" and as soon as you stop your testos. level drops. There are other possible factors as its function as a neurosteriod.

This is where the fitness guys are in the know 'cause they'd do this in a 6 to 8-week cycle.

250mg is a high dose BTW. Really 100mg tops IMO.

Hi, jamesrwrightiii,

Whoa. 250 mg of DHEA is a lot. I would never ever take that much myself. Heck, I only take 10 mg in the AM and that does the trick for me.

I tried DHEA 25mg 1 yr ago, but the effect was not as good as Andriol Testocaps 40mg.

I went to a GP and had my blood Testosterone checked on 2 separate morning, and was found very low, so the GP rang for an Authority Script for Andriol 40mg, 2 caps twice/day.

I had a conversation with my GP about the use of DHEA from compounding chemist, but he opted with Andriol..... I don't know.... maybe he thought it has more research on it than DHEA, also he said that DHEA is a bit toxic to the liver function, converted to estrogen and causes gynocomastia.

Andriol ( Testosterone undecanoate) is an ester of testosterone, not broken down in the liver, but absorped via lymphatic system in the small intestine. So it minimises the burden to the liver function. And at the dose recommended daily, it unlikely causes gynocomastia. ( Although I know that any form of Testosterone will be converted in some degree to estrogen.)

I used to get Reandron ( Testosterone undecanoate) 1000mg injection, every 3 months. The effect was good. It boost my energy level, alleviated my low mood and increases my feeling of well-being. But the problem is, before the next injection was due, my level of Testosterone dropped, and I felt tired, low in mood again.

That's why he changed it to the capsules form.

As I'm on a DSP, I can get 120 caps ( a month supply for $5.50, compared to DHEA which is about over a hundread dollar per month via a compounding pharmacy.)

To me, comparing the effect of Testosterone and DHEA, I find that Testosterone has a more antidepressant effect.

But a friend of mine who is taking DHEA, he said that DHEA works better for him.

( DHEA, Androstenedione, etc are pro-hormones...... I just saw through advertising that there are many better pro-hormones that do not convert to estrogen. DHEA is the first pro-hormone developed, it is produced in our adrenal glands, whereas Testosterone is produced via the testes.)

I used to take NO-DOZ, 100mg of caffeine, but its effect was not as "high/refreshing" as a can of Redbull. I could take up to 5 tabs of it, and with that amount of caffeine it did give me an energised feeling, but with a bit of nausea.

Caffeine can cause adrenal gland exhaustion, and as DHEA is produced via adrenal glands, it may benefit you in short-term, and that might be the reason you are feeling better while on DHEA.

I read in some research in Medline about DHEA, that long-term use of it is not recommended. It is safer if there is a GP monitoring the use of it if I may suggest.
