32 year old actress Brittany Murphy died of 'natural causes'? How could cardiac arrest be natural for such a young woman? It doesn't make any sense. Obviously she was on drugs since she has a history of drug abuse.

By ANTHONY McCARTNEY, AP Entertainment Writer Anthony Mccartney, Ap Entertainment Writer – 13 mins ago LOS ANGELES – Brittany Murphy was ill with flulike symptoms in the days before her death and prescription medications were taken from her home, the Los Angeles coroner's office said Monday.

The 32-year-old star of films such as "Clueless" and "8 Mile" died Sunday morning after collapsing at her Hollywood Hills home. Paramedics tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said they will conduct an autopsy Monday to try to determine what killed the actress, and said her death appeared to be from natural causes. He said the illness, reported to officials by her family, could have contributed to her death, but it will be weeks before a final determination is made.

Toxicology tests will be performed, and officials will contact her personal physician to get a better sense of Murphy's medical history, Winter said.

Neighbor Clare Staples said she saw firefighters working to resuscitate the actress Sunday morning. She said Murphy was on a stretcher.

Murphy's husband, wearing pajama bottoms and no shoes, appeared "dazed" as firefighters tried to save her, Staples said. "It's just tragic," she added.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

"The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy," Murphy's husband and family wrote in a statement. "She was our daughter, our wife, our love, and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this difficult time."

Murphy's death put "Saturday Night Live" in an awkward spot. Two weeks ago, the NBC show aired a sketch during "Weekend Update" in which cast member Abby Elliott performed an impression of Murphy, who had recently been fired from a film project. The impression portrayed Murphy as spacey and living in the past.

After her death Sunday, the sketch disappeared from Hulu.com, the online video repository co-owned by NBC Universal.

The quiet removal prompted many bloggers and online viewers to question the sketch's tastefulness and the decision to erase it without notice. A publicist for "Saturday Night Live" didn't respond to requests for comment.

Murphy moved to Los Angeles with her mother, Sharon, in the early 1990s. Her career started with small roles in television series, commercials and movies, but her part in "Clueless" led to larger projects.

She is best known for parts in "Girl, Interrupted" and "8 Mile," and also voiced the character Luanne Platter for more 200 episodes on Fox's animated series "King of the Hill."

Her role in "8 Mile" led to more recognition, Murphy told AP in 2003. "That changed a lot," she said. "That was the difference between people knowing my first and last name as opposed to not."

She married British screenwriter Simon Monjack in 2007.

Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolotti, said he learned of her death from his son, the actress's brother, and was stunned.

"She was just an absolute doll since she was born," Bertolotti said from his Branford, Fla., home. "Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her — people that made movies with her, people on a cruise — they all loved her. She was just a regular gal."

He said he hadn't heard much about the circumstances of Murphy's death. Bertolotti divorced her mother when Murphy was young and hadn't seen Murphy in the past few years.

"She was just talented," Bertolotti said. "And I loved her very much."

She died "naturally" after consumption of elicit substances, mixing of prescriptions, or dieting to an unsafe weight without properly coordinating her nutrition. Or maybe a mix of all three.

I have heard of younger people dying of heart attacks before, but it was usually after vigorous exercise, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

Not unless the doctor was giving her too many sugar pills:

"According to the website, she began vomiting early Sunday morning and told family members she was feeling very ill. (She was "found unresponsive" Sunday morning at her Hollywood Hills home and was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.)TMZ also reports that "various prescriptions were found in Murphy's home -- written for her, her husband Simon Monjack and her mom."

The site quotes a source as saying, "There were a lot ...
a lot of prescriptions in the house."

In practically all cases, the "vigorous exercise" is long-duration aerobic-type exercising, such as marathons. At least, this is my observation.

She either had some kind of issue with her heart which her family should know about, or she was on something. Considering she dated Ashton Kutchner, I'm going with #2. There is definitely going to be something more to this story once the autopsy is done.

Yup, nothing natural about this death at all -- very much like Michael Jackson's death. Entirely self-inflected, although maybe unknowingly.

Exactly, the LA police are quoting her cause of death as cardiac arrest. Nothing natural about that, especially without a known heart condition.

Yea this woman was definitely using some drugs. The only cases of young people I have heard dying of heart attacks were in relation to drug abuse, or as Mind pointed out, otherwise pushing yourself past your limit (running a 50 mile race or something similar).

I play/watch hockey, and I've seen in the pros there have been some players that have just collapsed during games. Fortunately at that level they keep emergency equipment nearby, so the issues are rarely fatal.

It doesn't have to be drugs. Extreme dieting and/or use of diuretics can cause an arrhythmia by upsetting electrolyte balance (often low potassium and/or magnesium). Although drugs and/or dieting is the most likely explanation given her stardom, it's also possible that she had an undiagnosed arrhythmia/cardiac disorder that went off without any "user-error" on her part. That kind of thing is pretty scary, but it's very rare.

It was long rumored that she suffered from anorexia, which can be fatal.

Well, there ya go. Another Karen Carpenter. She arrested "naturally" as a consequence of screwed up electrolytes. The drugs in the house may have also been involved, or not.

This is exactly what happened to terri shaivo. But the reason I don't think i was the case with Brittany Murphy is because she was a known drug abuser.

"Paramedics moved Brittany from the bathroom to the master bedroom, where they found a slew of prescription drugs -- "A check of the nightstands revealed large amounts of prescription medication in the decedent's name. Also noted were numerous empty prescription medication bottles in the decedent's husband's name, the decedent's mother's name and unidentified third party names."

"According to the notes, the medications included Topamax (anti-seizure meds also to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (depression med), Klonopin (anxiety med), Carbamazepine (treats Diabetic symptoms and is also a bipolar med), Ativan (anxiety med), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic), Hydrocodone (pain med) and miscellaneous vitamins."

I guess they are just using 'died of natural causes' till they find out the real cause of death. But I don't understand what is wrong with saying 'cause of death not yet determined'. Why do they have to say 'natural causes'? I hate when they change the language of things out of nowhere and expect us all to understand it. I think when a young person dies and the article cites 'natural causes' it confuses people and makes people think you can die of age-related diseases when you are young, which is obvious bullshit. Here is another one from todays headlines.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Police say James Owen Sullivan, a drummer and backup vocalist for the Southern California band Avenged Sevenfold, has been found dead at his home in Southern California.

Lt. John Domingo says the 28-year-old Sullivan, who went by the stage name The Rev, appears to have died of natural causes on Monday in Huntington Beach.

The Orange County coroner's office is investigating the death.

Avenged Sevenfold formed in Huntington Beach in 1999 and won Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006. According to their MySpace page, the five-man metalcore band was working on their fifth album.

The band released a statement Monday expressing their sadness and calling Sullivan "one of the world's best drummers," and "our best friend and brother."
