I will be studying for and writing a 4-hr standardized test. As the title mentions, I am looking for a good nootropic for prolonged study, focus and mental energy.

I currently supplement with the following:
Omega3 - 3g
Piracetam - 1g - 3g
Alpha GPC - 300mg - 600mg
B-12 Vitamin

Any suggestions?

Excuse me. Is that a joke or do you really have dissociative identity disorder?

Piracetam:
Your study stack looks good enough for me. What are you not getting from this one right now, that you seek? Although I haven't tried it. Subjective reports state that Adrafinil give a good boost of mental energy. I would also look into ALCAR, as people say it's really good for mental energy.

Sorry for the late post, i've been busy during the holidays.

I am not an undercover agent at all. I don't see why police would be on these forums given that we're talking about legal supplements.

I am looking for something to give me mental energy and motivation - I think some sort of a stimulant may be a good idea. Alcar would be great but I can't import it into Canada. I'd also like to enhance my stamina. Perhaps such things cannot be achieved through nootropics.

How long do you have to experiment ?

Have you tried PhenylAlanine, Tyrosine, SAMe ?
What do you think about cdp-choline vs alpha-gpc ?

I've got a few months to toy around.

PEA - I've used it without any MAOIs, I found the effects to be short-lasting and gave me an emotional roller coaster (feeling very up and happy, and then very pooped and depressed 40 minutres afterwards)
Tyrosine- I've used it and enjoyed it, I found it useful when I lacked sleep or was exhausted. It seemed like a toned-down version of PEA.

I've used both cdp-choline and alpha-gpc. I first used cdp-choline along with piracetam and later switched to alpha-gpc as I found it to be a much more effective choline source.

I think for my purposes, adrafinil or methylphenidate would work best.

Hi,

I have used Piracetam and Hydergine. I currently use Aniracetam and Phosphatidyl Serine/Bacopin. I found that Hydergine was very effective at keeping my alertness level high. I used it primarily to be effective during long meetings. I was able to convince my doctor to prescribe it, therby cutting my costs:) The rest of the suppliments I call the 5% solution, good but not too noticable.

Regards,

Winslow

Out of those you've mentioned, adrafinil is effective and legal to buy without a prescription.

I've tried the piracetam/choline mix from cerebralhealth dot com and found no benefit, however i'm fairly young.

Modafinil is the best. Adrafinil is its prodrug and thus produces [relatively] more of the inactive metabolites that may raise your liver enzyme levels. However there's been no published direct comparisons between the 2 and I suspect the LFT results would be similar for bio-equivalent doses, as in, 200mg modafinil versus 300mg adrafinil.

The main effect I get from modafinil is not so much a charge of energy but a long-lasting plateau of alertness. For one thing, I will NOT fall asleep for at least 10 hours after taking 200 mg, normally taken only on a sleep-deprived exam-day. On other days, I might take 100 mg moda to last the entire day, and only 3 or 4 days a week.

My opinion, anything that can get people off the destructive cycle of caffeine tolerance/dependence is progress. The half-life of caffeine is so short that if proposed as a drug agent today it would be laughed out of the room by every pharma company in the world.

Why not? It isn't scheduled in Canada.

I'm wondering about this too. I have a friend going to school in Canada I've been mailing some nootropics to, and ALCAR is on my list. Should I not do this, for some reason?

This.

I noticed at 200mg i didn't really have any tiredness at all for the entire day, not even the smallest drop when doing homework as i normally would. It improved concentration slightly and made me feel more "in the zone" when doing the work and increasing my mood during. I got a bit distracted as normal, so it wasn't as good as ritalin in that way.
An bizarre side effect during was the distortion of time perception, conversations with friends felt like a few minutes ending up being 20minutes, and every time we checked the time it had been 30minutes or so and only felt like a few, this was very disturbing as we felt as if we accomplished very little. The day went past overly quickly. Anyone experienced this?

For those of you wondering, ALCAR is not available in Canada. However, I have had no problems importing it whatsoever. I have imported both capsules and bulk powder. If bought online most vendors put simply "supplements" on the custom form. I have yet to have any of my supplements opened. Go ahead and get ALCAR.

if only studying was as physically and mentally rewarding as lets say sex or a nice cold cup of water during a hot summer day. I bet you i would be a professor by now lol. Who knows i might find a supplement that allows me to study and love it at the same time!

Gotu kola will give you a mental edge and improve your overall body/mind energy and relax you. And then you could add celastrus for even more mental energy.

I have gotu kola. Bought Now gotu kola from iherb and took it during the day for two weeks, don't know if it did anything so i started taking it before night. Gonna finish the bottle and evaluate at the end.

Hey Nito,

Could you let us know how your gotu kola trial went. I'm thinking of buying Nature's Way's Gotu Kola extract.

Gotu kola is a mild adaptogen, is mildly antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcerogenic, anxiolytic, a cerebral tonic, a circulatory stimulant, a diuretic, nervine and vulnerary.
(...)
In addition, preliminary evidence suggests that it may have nootropic effects.[14] Centella asiatica is used to re-vitalize the brain and nervous system, increase attention span and concentration [15], and combat aging.[14] Centella asiatica also has anti-oxidant properties.

If you don't feel nothing at 500 mg you can go up to 3 gm/day in powder form. You get the best out of herbs at 3-6 gm but I rarely use more than 3 gm.

Wouldn't you build a tolerance to Gotu Kola, since it supposedly acts on the GABA receptors?

Hey, I realize this is an old post, but for anyone that looks at this, I read a great post on the best nootropic stacks for studying

I hope this can help.
