Little bit of a "lateral thinking" answer, but most people's posture is poor.

If yours could be better, then chances are you'd gain at least an inch (often more) from correcting it, not to mention the health benefits.

I consciously correct my posture many times a day, despite having done so for years. It seems there is always room for improvement (even if logically it is possible to have perfect posture).

While I could waffle for a long time about good posture, it's really tricky to convey in a written medium. Instead I'll offer one little tip, you may have heard of it before but I find it very useful: Imagine that your head is suspended from the ceiling by a thread, and the rest of your body is hanging off that. This will tend to straighten everything out to the extent that it ought to be straightened.

This will seem strange if you're not used to doing it, but it'll rapidly become very comfortable and natural.

Props to my old yoga teacher for first bringing this to my attention.

Edit to add: As an example, you can see what I mean possibly in this video, where if you ignore my sleep-deprived waffle and look at my body, you'll notice my occasional postural self-corrections:

You can gain a quarter inch to a few inches by hanging out in space for a while by spine lengthening in zero gravity, but if you can't quite afford the trip yet you could try hanging upside down ;-) http://www.articlesb...apy-768999.html --some people get surgery to lengthen their legs (very transhuman ;) ) http://www.rucosm.com/ienglish9.htm

But, you did say grow taller--so I assume you mean naturally, you have a slight chance of growing a bit taller by 25-but I do think people are generally done by 21 (the average for girls is 16 to 21). I knew a woman who took hormones to help her get pregnant in her thirties, and she grew 3 inches-it was crazy, wouldn't have believed it if I'd not seen it--but there are some documented cases, and darn-it, that again is not natural... There are dangers with using hormones though to gain in height after puberty.

So to naturally grow--the best way other than working on your posture would be to get optimal nutrition with your vitamins, minerals, proteins and healthy fats--some people have gained inches in height in their twenties after getting optimal nutrition (having been deprived due to their family's income, or a lack of education/crash diets etc).

Another augmented way (that does not include growing taller, yet is considered "natural" in our modern society :) ) you can easily invest in some lovely height lengthening shoes for when you are out and about in public if you like :) My husband is shorter than me, my 13 year old is almost taller than him and will be by 16--but he doesn't care about his height, he's quite confident and successful and wouldn't wear booster shoes if I gave them to him :) I'm pretty tall for a woman at 5' 10'' (he is 5' 7'', our 13 year old is already 5' 5'') Height is useful at times, but being short is useful too...I'd love to be able to be short sometimes--if you are short you can go back and forth with shoes, but I can't do that ;)

Thanks David!

Shannon, surgery looks painful!
Besides I'd rather have some of it to my spine or something, my legs already make most of my height. (short torso long legs type)
I can always wear heels, I just don't like wearing them. They really need to get used to.. a friend of mine is too used to them, she is uncomfortable in normal shoes.

Maybe I'll be lucky and grow a bit taller still ^^ but I doubt it, I haven't got taller for years now (4 or even more - I am not sure) and I am near 21.

Shorter women are more likely to have long-term relationships with men, and more likely to have children, according to a study of 10,000 people born in the UK in 1958.

The average height for a British woman is 1.62 metres (5 feet, 4 inches). But those who were between 1.51 and 1.58 metres were most likely to be married and to have children by the age of 42. This relationship held true even after accounting for social class.

http://www.newscient...l-with-men.html

So, do men prefer shorter women? Reading around the web, peoples' answers were all over the place. As were the reasons given for the preference. The obvious thing is that women are shorter than men by default. So, I doubt it's a conscious preference. I also doubt what people say they prefer. It doesn't mostly correlates with who they actually date.

I'm 6'4" and I like shorter women. Rejecting a 5'4" girl sounds silly and shallow.

I am 164 cm I think that's 5'4.5 or a bit more. That's not *THAT* short but wouldn't mind 2 inches more.. or 3 ;)

It's not for dating reasons or lack of confidence, just for fun! I am VERY comfortable with my height :)
Never had a problem with relationship due to my height either, the opposite, I do believe men do prefer women who are quite (but not TOO) shorter than they are. I know some women who have problem getting dates due to being to tall.

You don't like heels. But would you wear them for fun? How would you make being taller a game?
... Hmm, here's what you do: One day you tell everyone they must roleplay as short people. Everyone MUST be lower than you at all times. (I'm out because my lower back and knees would die:) Ok so, now you dress yourself with 2-3" elevating shoes—no get stilts! ;) If anyone gets higher than you, they lose gil/money. But they win if you drop lower than them.

I'm sure the short players would find walking on knees and keeping limbs low incredibly annoying in time. Someone's bound to screw up. What do you think?

Nobody has mentioned HGH ?

It might work if your growth plates are not closed.

I don't know if you'd qualify for treatment at 5' 4'' though.

I think growth hormones are generally pro aging. At least according to a ladies presentation about some tiny little animal at SENS4. Naked mole rats perhaps? I'm not sure

Oh I doubt I'd want growth hormone!

Other than what Caston said, I heard it makes other things grow and not just being taller. I am just going to wait until I get a customizable body one day and change my height as I would love ^^ so don't get too serious with this thread! was just wondering if there is a chance for it to happen naturally.

No, it's TON FUN! not "NOT FUN!" :)

You should invent a gravity control machine for yourself. Then you could modify your height at whim. Or create height control shoes! You'd press a secret button and in front of everyone, you could drop or gain ten inches. :)

Oh, and another thing. To seem taller, just describe yourself in a different measurement system. Say to Israeli guys you're 5'4.5". Say to Americans your 164cm or 1.64 meters. Use whichever one they don't understand. But you think they'll understand the measuring system, make one up. Tell them your Martian height (you'd be taller). Say you don't like your height in an "Earth-centric" way.

But if it all fails. Just ask people to stop being taller than you. That should work too. If you ask me politely I'll promise to wake up one morning, to look in the mirror and be 4'6":)

haha Jack!

There was that woman on Ted who lost her legs and now has like 6 pairs of artificial legs and she can change how tall she is every day :D I really liked that.
I was talking to a psychologist few days ago and told her that story, she was like "ohhhhhhhhh that's so cool!!!!!!" :D she's using those sort of stuff with her patients which have body limitations (like lack of limbs)

food. food. foood. what else is your body made of?
i would say you should load up on calcium, since putting foods that have a lotta calcium go straight to your bones, which BAM! helps you grow. so here's some high calcium foods like: low-fat milk (or whole), yogurt and cheeses.
i would also avoid stuff like caffeine (if u drink it), since it robs the body of calcium, which isn't good. (also, avoid eating extra sugar and salts. they take away and dont hold much if any nutritional value.)
next up is:proteins. your muscles need protein so i would eat stuff like fish and eggs (boiled). *but u might not like the fish, im an asian, so im used to it. but if u like lots of meat or chicken(yum), just make sure to go lean, or else u could give urself some bags of flab. eating more nuts will give u a lot more nutrients than a handful of potato chips.
it's good that ur eating vegetables. however u can eat certain kinds, especially spinach, brussel sprouts, broccoli, asparagus (definitely from what i've heard), cabbage, and coleslaw, since all contain vitamin k, which turns on your bone-building protein. (osteocalcin)
if ur a cereal eater in the morning, eat ones that have vitamin d. vitamin d will take all the calcium in and deposit it into your bones.
oooh, also, no one really knows this but your bones are also made out of MAGNESIUM. enough to make it an important factor. some foods that contain it would be: nuts, dried beans, crabmeat, spinach, wheat germ, wheat bran and chocolate (i couldn't believe the last one myself. who would've guessed.)
i also have a personal reference: my uncle eats a TON of blue cheese and he is the tallest man i have ever met. so if i were u, i'd probably start eating more cheese (a lot) maybe a stick or two a day. (or u can sneak it into your food)
*did u know that posture also affects your spine, which contributes to how tall u can be too? just look at all the tall people. most of the time, they should have good posture. if ur slumping, pick it up, straighten that spine.
Growth products : My choice is herbal ones like HELPO GROWTH FORMULA www.helpogrowthformula.com ( i think i gained 2 inches from it)
so here are the main points i want u to start doing (and if u want, u can tell me if ur seeing results):
-eat more cheese
-keep getting enough sleep(try to aim for 8 or more)
-eat the vegetables with vitamin k (like spinach, asparagus and broccoli)
-eat lots of protein (meat, chicken, or fish)
-eat cereal with vitamin d (u also get this naturally from the sun! :) but not too much.
-eat boiled eggs! (my chemistry teacher is also really health conscious and he said eggs fill u up the best.)
-treat urself to some chocolate every now and then. u know the rules. but i would eat dark chocolate since that actually gives u some nutrients and milk chocolate contains more hormones which might make u break out. (this is for some people)
-stretching/running/leg exercises help give room for your bones to expand, exercising destroys bone (i need to double check on that one) but after a day of resting, it grow back a little bit bigger!
-drink milk! it is so important, yet it's easy to forget sometimes. so drink it!
- Helpo Growth Formula is a good product to combine with all stuff above alternatively.
i think that's everything.. sorry i went on and on. i hope that helped you out! :)
it looks pretty good.
