Bromocriptine I tried decades ago. for me it had very strong dopamine effects (unpleasant). I recommend starting with very low doses when first taking it then increasing as needed. It's HGH and Prolactin effects are interesting, but as far as a Nootropic Hydergine handsdown. Nicergoline many people I've prescribed have had great effects from it, but I have not, considering the effects though I think it's worth trying.

As a general rule should we avoid supplements which affect dopamine levels one way or another? Isn't addiction directly related to a drug's affect on dopamine in the brain?

No, as long as you don't overincrease Dopamine.

Yes it is. But its how it effects dopamine (receptors, MAO-B, L-DOPA) that makes the difference between enhancing function and negatively effecting functioning. Something thats slighty and/or slowly increases dopamine (low dose deprenyl, L-dopa, DLPA, PEA) versus quickly releasing high levels of dopamine (crack) is safe for most people.
