The Anarchist in the Library: How the Clash Between Freedom and Control is Hacking the Real World and Crashing the System
by Siva Vaidhyanathan

I'm skimming this right now, and so far it appears to be an excellent overview of the growing conflict of groups who seek control over information and those who seek its ultimate freedom. This is a topic all of us should be concerned with, as we have seen the extremely detrimental effects the current political administration's use of information control and manipulation has caused for our society. It also gives a very lucid analysis of why we need to find a stable balance between anarchy and oligarchy in any system.

I saw the author interviewed on TechTV. One of the most interesting parts of the interview was when the author admitted he was surprised by how libertarian his book was - about freedom of information and all.

I see the current administration trying to control social activity, but I am afraid that if a Democrat comes to power he/she/they will try to control economic activity. They all think they have the right plan for saving humanity, but top-down regulation fails miserably most of the time. Bottom-up emergent organization would be much better in my opinion. Can you tell I am a Libertarian?
