It has to be converted to testosterone before estrogen, right? I am find a combo of this and pregnenolone to be very calming. Am I running a risk here?

Low dose of progesterone is safe. But you do run the risk of your body down regulating these hormones thus being dependent on them long term. I remember reading that pregnenolone can have nasty withdrawal effects.

Preg is ok for men... prog is not. Progesterone has feminizing effects in men because it increases estrogen receptor density. This means the body can perceive normal levels of estrogen as high. I got a minor case of "gyno" from using progesterone cream for anxiety.

Your brain upregnenolone whether you are male or female. I do not know about supplementing it in a young guy, but men my age do supplement with pregnenolone. Fredd at www.wrongdiagnosis.com on the "could it be b12?" bulletin board supplements with 100mg pregnenolone and 25 mg DHEA every day.

Um, use of pregnenolone is hormone REPLACEMENT. Subject to all the care thereof. I would not suggest it for anyone under 50.

Did you just argue with yourself? :)

@onescrewloose - progesterone (and other hormones) have profound, sweeping, and still (in many ways) poorly understood epigenetic effects, some of which can be permanent. There is no scientific or rational basis for the safety or efficacy of progesterone use in healthy young males (or any males, that I know of). Any use thereof is unwarranted and almost definitely dangerous.

With all respect and concern I urge you to take a really hard look at what you put in your body/brain, especially hormones.

Don't worry, I abandoned the hormones, it was mostly a trial thing to test some hormonal theories of what might be wrong with me.

I do. I get all of my hormone levles checked biannually and supplement where necessary. I take progesterone in the evening before bed. It has a calming effect.
Hormones should only be taken under the supervision of a qualified doctor IMO, though taking a small amount of progesterone, pregnenalone or DHEA is probably harmless especially for people over 40 who are generally hormone deficient.

I believe it depends on whether or not you're hormone deficient.

ANECDOTAL:
I've experimented with DHEA in order to increase Testosterone.
Oral supplementation with DHEA seems to have decent bioavailability.

Anything above 50 mg DHEA/day will elevate my levels of ESTROGEN too much.
If going above 50 mg DHEA/day I'd probably need to apply a strong AROMATASE INHIBITOR to prevent Testosterone conversion into Estrogen.

To extrapolate I think the same applies to Progesterone.
You can supplement to some extent. You could probably increase the dosage little by little and observe the side effect/benefit ratio.
If side effects start developing; you just decrease the dosage.

The outcome when supplementing with hormones is very individual.
It all depends on what tendencies your body has to convert the hormone.
The conversion enzymes is pretty much out of your control, unless you take strong prescription INHIBITORS.

The supplemented hormone can end up anywhere on this map: (see picture)
http://upload.wikime...oidogenesis.svg

For me, the side effects were reversible. I could just reduce my dosage and the unwanted symptoms would disappear.
But I can't say it'd be just as easy for anyone else.

If you decide to supplement: check your hormone levels to see if you're deficient, and adjust dosage little by little.
If you're deficient, I believe you'll more likely have less side-effects.

i wasnt asking about it related to deficiency in any hormones. was questioning this as a way to help with anxiety and also as cognitive enhancer as you can read from the internet, a lot has been shown positive in those regards.

can someone collaborate on this please ? kind of ruins the whole idea of using this at all.
