This is the first time I am seeking some advice in all of the 'racetam confusion.

I have been hanging out here as a guest for the past 4 or 5 months now and I am trying to find out the best combination of supplements to keep my body and mind functioning the way they should without overloading myself on too much of the wrong things.

Before I write out a list of what I have in my drawer of supplements, I should make some mention of my lifestyle and what I have been taking up until now..

I went through a 750mg x 60 capsule bottle of Aniracetam from harvest moon health foods over the past few weeks. It was my first time taking any form of a racetam and I noticed absolutely no changes in my behavior apart from a very tired and kind of dreamy state for the first 4-6 days of taking it. I was taking 3-5 750mg capsules a day. During this time I was also taking (on a daily basis):

2 tablespoons of lecithin granules (morning)
1500mg glucosamine (morning)
1500mg st. johns wort (morning)
1000mg fish oil - omega 3 (morning)
500mcg vitamin B-12 (morning)
500mg vitamin C (morning)
2000mg Flaxseed oil (split between morning/night)
3000mg garlic (split between morning/night)
100mg 5-HTP (night)
200mg L-Theanine (night)

Now, at this point I'd like to add in ginkgo biloba (120 mg, 1 a day) and replace the aniracetam with oxiracetam to see if there is any effect of a racetam on me at all.

Some info on my lifestyle; I'm 23, male. My job requires me to drive a lot during the work week, so I do end up sitting quite a bit. I work out at the gym 2-4 times every week and spend my weekends involved in healthy activities with friends. I am also a part time student in college and nearly finished. I do not drink regularly or excessively. I do not smoke or use any illegal drugs. I have had a bit of depression since high school and have taken an ssri for a very brief period which had absolutely no effect on my symptoms (except for the lovely withdrawal effects of an ssri). I also have some social anxiety problems. I did take ritalin when I was between the ages of 8 and 12 because some idiot told my parents I had ADHD.. :~

Here are my questions:

How much Oxiracetam should I take and how should I spread it out through the day?

Should I consider adding any vitamins/minerals or supplements into my current mix even if just to promote my health?

Should I remove anything that could potentially be interfering with another?

Would a multivitamin be helpful in the mix if I were to remove the B-12 and add that in? (I was taking a GNC mega-men multivitamin once a day in the morning alongside the B-12 and everything else up top for a while but I would always urinate a fluorescenty yellow color.. which made me think that I must have too much of something in my system with the multivitamin)

Should I refrain from taking certain things on the weekends or take a break from certain supplements every so often?

Again, I would really appreciate any pointers or criticism. I know asking a million questions on a first post is never the greatest thing to do but I'm not sure of who better to turn to (I don't quite trust the opinions of the people of BFE up here.. :) )

Thank you!!

Welcome to the forum,

Oxiracetam - You might consider starting at 400mg per dose and working your way up. I've read that optimal dosing is between 1200 and 2400mg per day, however I find that 400mg to 800mg taken once to twice daily is quite effective for me personally.

Interactions - SJW, Garlic, Gingko Biloba, and fish oil are all purported to be blood thinners so I would be hesitant to add Gingko to this combo. Also too, as you are taking a considerably high amount of SJW combined with other agents that affect serotonin (Theanine, 5-HTP) I would suggest that you take time to educate yourself about the effects of Serotonin syndrome, if you haven't done so already. Educate yourself about the warning signs so that if there are early signs of trouble, you will recognize them.

Multivitamin - I think generally a multi-vitamin could be helpful dependant on your diet and objectives. Adequate folate and B-Vitamin intake have been shown to be important for reducing stress and managing depression, so if you opt to begin taking one, I would suggest trying to find a multi that in the least incorporates some of the more active and bioavailable forms of Vitamin B. You'd be hard pressed to find a much better B vitamin than 'Ortho Core' by AOR. If you want a B Complex, I think the best one you'll be able to find anywhere is AOR 'Advanced B Complex'.

What are your goals/objectives for this regimen? There may be supplements that are more suitable for these purposes than those you are presently taking. Otherwise nothing you are taking now IMO would need to be cycled.

Cheers
