For the first time I am attempting to study properly so I have been trying them to see if they will improve the brain fog I get with an underactive thyroid and depression. So far, once in a while, they seem to be working just enough to help me organise my thoughts and help me concentrate

Hi,

I'm trying nootropics, because I like to experiment with chemicals. I find them interesting.

Also, I want to improve my health, my mood, my brain, my motivation, my energy... everything.

For now I've taking piracetam 1 week and the results are amazing, I feel like a different person, being able to do more. Everything is easier... it's strange :)
Will now also try ALCAR + ALA :)

cheers

I am interested in nootropics for the same reason Mark McGwire was interested in anabolics - I want to continue to do things as well as I have in the past and, in fact, want to do what I can to continue to improve.

I take them to help with ADHD symptoms - but I actually started researching them and began taking them to aid in recovery from stimulant addiction.

I want better mental/cognitive performance today and brain longevity for the long future. Not necessarily the same thing. Ritalin/Adderall/Modafanil may make you perform better today, but might have some long-term negative consequences on your brain. So are those really nootropics? The things that you may notice the most may end up not necessarily being best for you long term. I like to experiment with many nootropics to see if I notice something with them, but am more selective about what I take on a regular basis (ALCAR, ALA, Phosphatidyl Serine).

In the meanwhile done a lot of other things:

aniracetam, ashwhaghanda, rhodiola, L-theanine, sam-E, idebenone (now taking that)

Will try lots of other stuff, why not if it makes you feel better generally.

I came to them for increased ability to think and to have my attention/cognition at optimal level.

I stayed mostly for the anti-depressant effects and for the goal of long-term preservation. Plus, it becomes interesting when you get into it. It is fun to try new stacks and see how they effect you.

Chose "other" because I am generally looking at nootropics to improve my performance at work. I have always had a pretty decent memory, but stress at work over the past couple of years, coupled with getting older, has definitely had a toll. I have been using nootropics for around 10 weeks and have definitely noticed some benefits so far.

I have taken dietary supplements for many years and I suppose the nootropics is just a natural progression.

I can't think of many things that are more interesting than enhancing how the brain works and thats why I experiment with nootropics(and other drugs Posted Image ). Can't forget that we pretty much are our brains.. and I can certainly notice the enhancements that most nootropics bring to consciousness.

You said it..

ALSO. Why not? If it can help me in any way im willing to try it.

But im also one of those who thinks the world and most people are truly boring when im not "on something" or trying new things.
I have always been a user of 'things'(substances) that can alter consciousness since i turned Teen.

For the first time since i discovered mind altering things to consume, i have had a clean period. It lasted 4 months, where as the first was hard from withdrawal of things i can smoke..

Alas, as i suspected, the world just turned boring..

So now i will give Piracetam a try.. This is my 8th day. And my first time doing Nootropics(and I must say, Nootropics are way more fascinating than all other types of drugs i have given a try so far :)

I'm surprised there was no option for "combating Alzheimer's or other age-related cognitive issues"...seeing as fighting aging is the primary purpose of this site :)

It would also have been worthwhile to include "To improve my cognitive performance at work".

I checked "Student", although I'm not currently a student. I just take nootropics for roughly the same reason - improved ability to absorb, comprehend, and cross-reference vast amounts of information, much of which is acquired from books.

LBGSHI, let me be the first. Before doing so however, I'll add that this is my first post at Longecity although I have been browsing the forum for a couple of months. Okay, thanks - now, no further need for commentary.

My initial foray into Longecity was researching assists to lucid dreaming. Then I discovered references to increase brain performance and alzheimers issues. My mom passed a couple of years ago after a bout with Alzheimer's although for a while, most had no idea. And I thought she was just being a senior air head... my bad. She really was gray under all that blonde color.

Starting with Piracetam and Choline Bitartrate I'm what the dosing research thread is calling a micro doser. I can experience enhanced colors and sounds with a single dose of 800mg Piracetam and 500 mg of the Choline. But I've moved on.

I'm now dosing with Noopept sublingual with CDP Choline - I open the capsule to dump into a small amount of Coconut milk. Two to three times a day. I have almost instant increase in most all things positive about the intent of the dose.

So yeah, I'm working on this as an attempt at getting in front of Alzheimer's, rather than waiting for the joys of being incognito - to myself. Seems my life has been a reflection of Mom's... may be a family trait, but not a good scenario. And to improve cognitive performance. I seem to be more willing to let myself do things without questioning my process. With greater success.

So thanks to all for the product commentary and guidance. And if any of you find me in your dreams.. not to worry, I'm just passing thru.

I take it to function in society.

Without it my mind is utter chaos and the anhedonia I experience makes nothing pleasurable. Living becomes 100x harder and no matter how much effort I put in, I am not rewarded biochemically. There is no satisfaction in anything I do and furthermore, the lethargy that goes along with it makes it hair-pulling painful to do anything. On top of that, the constant rush of adrenaline that happens whenever anything minor occurs due to generalized anxiety makes going out impossible. I'm not even going to get into the OCD issues... This is just another day of someone suffering from Bipolar II with primarily melancholic depression. I'm happy to say I don't experience most of these things anymore.

I drink coffee, tea, and an energy drink once in a while. I also like to eat berries and dark chocolate for health and cognitive benefits. Seems this is all I need, although I have at least thought of taking some other substances for warding off age-related brain problems. Not sure of the cost-benefit ratio. Right now, I spend my time and money supporting fundamental research into aging and rejuvenation. Seems this will have a much bigger payback than dumping wads of money into noots.

I can certainly understand the need for some people with known and well-defined cognitive disorders to take noots.

For the rest, any objective data? I see only one person in this thread who even attempted a before-n-after cognitive test. For all the hoopla, I don't see many noot users leading the effort to cure aging (but I will give a shout out to Chrono and manic_racetam for helping out here at LongeCity!!) A lot of people (hard-working researchers and leaders at various LE orgs) credit coffee/caffeine for extra energy but I have yet to see anyone give credit to other noots.

Mind, back around my mid-twenties I had surgery. Until then I had been an idiot sort of young punk. A few months after surgery I got real depressed. Hung around there for a couple of years then got counseling, worked my way out of it and learned how to deal with it. Depression is no longer a problem - or if it raises its ugly head I can find my way out or just listen to some Eagles music... spell broken. But still a dysfunctional dumb ass. That was forty years ago.

Through that late 20's time I discovered that a yeast based multi-vitamin with beer would work like a pep me up. I also learned to smoke a lot of pot. Not to get dumb or dumber but learned to think through the stone. Helped to increase self reliance in other societal scenarios. But still a dumb ass, just less dysfunctional.

I do drink a lot of tea and/or coffee and yeah, energy drinks do help but in a different way. The coffee or tea are more just a low grade activity boost. And energy drinks the same, but a bit overboard.

I could be interested in Who and where to find anyone interested in establishing objective data to take my brain function to a new level. But most any person I meet or have normal interaction with would just judge me to be boringly normal. So I don't whine.

My life expiences have shown me that in that normal capacity I excel at fitting in. However, the places I'd rather fit require a thought function that is just a bit more intense - or competent - than my brain will allow into my reality.

I can do multiplication tables blindfolded but when it comes to Trig I can never remember which function to use for a good result. I have designed a collapseable stair stringer - strictly out of ignorance. That is, a stair stringer for an offhsore rig which unfortunately, collapsed.

I can draw with AutoCad but when it comes to enhancing the program function with AutoLisp I totally stall. I've tried coding for computer operations but fail to comprehend why or how I get to the next line of code. But I can read code and in some cases fully understand the process.

It could be drain bammage or other not quite fortunate circumstance. I have neither insurance nor the cash to invest in the discovery necessary to find and develop remedy - or just chalk it up to reality. But I have had some pretty cool dreams which are the initial reason for my interest in noots, ultimately leading me to Noopept which seems to have some interesting results.

And there's that onset of dementia I can see in the lights ahead so I'm also looking for a fork in the road....

I have some kind of undiagnosed add/adhd/whatever you wanna call it.
Was prescribed to mph but deceided to quit after experimenting with noots.
Experimented with many drugs, got addicted to thc. After talking to professionals I realised I was selfmedicating.
Mph helped a lot but also is addicting for me. So for the second time i ditched the mph, glad I did.

Nowadays I take modafinil, combined with some of the following;
Pira, prami, noopept, ani, alcar, centrophen, sulbutamine. Cycled different stacks.
If I look back, last year, I started noots; It really boosted my performance in work. I work with psychiatric people, who are mentally a bit disabled and have 'difficult behaviour' ( dont know how to say it in English).
Last year I made big progress in leadership, writing plans and the practical work with my clients in general. Workwise it was my best year since I started working 16yrs ago.
Most remarkable is my verbal expression, I Can make myself clear and give feedback without getting anxious.

After all, at home, it won't get me motivated really to do cleaning/adminsitration/etc but I don't want to be taking stims for that. It probably just is me, a man should also have his 'less good personality' at some aspects :p
