That may be because you were trying to post a link.

Posts from ImmInst users (not Members) with < 10 posts who try to post a link are now send to a moderation queue.

This should go some way to deter spammers.
Sorry for the inconvenience if you are not one of them!

From a thread I can't link to:

Posts from ImmInst guests (not Members) with < 10 posts who try to post a link are now send to a moderation queue.

However I am a registered user and cannot post posts with links. I thought my very long post with a Pubmed link was deleted so I typed it all over again and submitted it multiple times to no avail thinking my computer was the problem (firefox 3.6.6).

Of course it finally worked when I took out the link, but now I'm guessing I have a bunch of posts in the moderation queue. Is there a way to delete those?

I apologise for the imprecision.

to clarify:
People who don't have an account at ImmInst at all ('guests') cant do anything - they can view topics but cannot post, vote etc.

The 10-post link limit applies to registered users, like you viscosity, but not to voting Members (with a 'subscription').

It is quite possible that the threshold is too high, we'll see how that goes, but the principle is right as many spammers we have seen recently rely on a human to log in and then use a robot to draw out text from a thread and spike it with links.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and no, only moderators can take care of queued threads. I'm sure if they find your post and see that its not spam they will let it through and spare you having to re-type it again.

Thank you for the clarification.

Well, I already submitted a post sans-link a little bit ago (also saved it in a word document this time), so sorry about the extra posts.

Thank you for the prompt help.

I thought the same thing until I just witnessed (just minutes ago) a spammer try posting and reposting a spam message four times in a row, at which point he gave up. Seems to be working -- I'd say leave it.

I also think this is a useful feature. But is there any way to bring up a message explaining what's going on, when a user tries to post? Or even re-direct them to this thread? I've probably explained this about half a dozen times in the past week or two.

I don't think brand-new users are entirely likely to find this subforum, and it could be an understandable source of confusion/frustration for them.

This would be helpful. I have been mostly lurking on ImmInst for a few years now and spent a good 15-20 minutes trying to figure out what was going on.

I am a moderator on another forum and an alternative that our admin implemented to eliminate about 90% of spammers was to create a mandatory, fictitious country name. Anyone who selected the first option was automatically sent to moderation.

I had posts that had links in them (I am not a spammer and am genuinely trying to get help). I may have made multiple posts. In the nootrophic forum. I would hate for them to be all over the place. Could I request which may get deleted if there are double posts?

I just tried to post three new threads. They aren't showing up. They had no links. I tried two of them twice. This is frustrating.

I don't know why this site has as many bugs as it does.

One thing might be inadequate bandwidth. The problems are continuing after what seemed to be a change of operating systems. Maybe they are bugs or viruses.

I would definitely try to get more bandwidth and look into any security issues. Maybe vBulletin would work. Whatever the strongest, best, most popular software for forums is, I would look into it.

Luminocity, I cannot find any queued topic you apparently posted.... Where did you post them?

Thank for responding.

There were in Unrelated to Life Extension and Supplements.

Also, there was a really good website and I think the software was Gelsoft or Jelsoft? The people running it were programmers, though, and they wrote their own code to adapt the system.

Maybe I was failing to put in a sub-topic? If so, sorry for the false alarm. Thanks for working on this. My topics posted today. Thanks for running the forum.

I like how it is working, and since we have lower level ways to be a member then we may have more who would join as full members. Beyond that here are ways to share info without putting in the actual link...

I posted a new topic in the 'Nootropics' forum earlier and it didn't show up, I can confirm that I am not a robot and there were no links in the post!

I made it visible. I do not understand either why it was not shown earlier, maybe one of the engineers cab explain how it works?

How long do you normally have to wait for a post to show up? I've placed one a couple days ago and it still doesn't show up.

Well, it doesn't happen until a mod comes across the post and approves it. This usually happens on a daily basis in the busier forums, but sometimes posts can slip through the cracks. Feel free to PM a moderator if you've been waiting more than a day or two.

@Al-lksir: I agree it's annoying, but so is people posting links to hardcore pornography downloads, with helpfully explicit photographs (happened just a few days ago). Once you have ten posts, you never have to think about it again, so we feel like it's a good balance between inconvenience and maintaining forum quality.

As for your post in the supplement forum, I just approved it. Please do not use this thread to pad out your post count; earlier posts will still need to be approved. There are very few things that are so urgent they can't wait half a day for a mod to see it.

Hi!

I suppose my post I did some days ago have ended up in the moderator queue as well. How long does it normally take to get it moderated? I wish now I didn't post the link to the lab I spoke about in the text.

Is it possible to access it somehow before it has been moderated? I know I really should have made a copy myself, but I didn't... :-/

Thanks in advance!

Dang, I just unwittingly sent three identical posts to the moderation queue. It might be helpful to pin a "Before you Post" topic in each forum highlighting this rule, but its value is self-evident.

Does a smiley count as a link? Because I've made a post today without a link, but with a smiley. Otherwise I have accidentally pasted a random (ctrl-v) link in that post.

Thanks.

Yes, smileys here are implemented as links. It's maddening.
