I got the domain www.imminst2010.com for the ImmInst International Conference 2010.

No content there yet; I intend to do that by the end of Monday (to give invited speakers a change to respond to their invitations, or at the very least receive them, rather than learn they are invited from reading the website rather than personal correspondence).

Now that I have resigned from some other things (Director Position here, and my day job) I will have more time to pursue these matters.

please pass receipts for the registration on to the treasurer for reimbursement.

Would it help the conference it it was co-branded as 'LongeCity'?

Thank you.

The registration company has terrible customer service, and has yet to provide any receipts.

But that said, it wasn't very expensive, and I'm happy for it to be a contribution from my part.

Well, I got a message earlier today from Michael Anissmov, saying that he's "happy that ImmInst hasn't caved to pressure from members to change its name over the years. Immortality all the way!", so possibly not. Also, I think ImmInst is well-enough known, and the LongeCity name little-enough known so far, that it'd more help the name LongeCity to be associated with the conference, I think.

To best promote the conference, I think ImmInst is the best name to use.

Well, in most of America it's still Monday evening, at least :p

There is a little bit of content now, but until I do some more work on it, it will only look good if you have the same browser and screen resolution as I do, so I can't launch it yet.

I'd tidy it up now (or at least take the borders away that appear around buttons in Firefox), but it's past six in the morning here and I've been at this all night (spent a good while wrestling with the server before I could start on the site itself).

It is likely that I will now do this on Wednesday, as (after a short period of sleep) I have a month's worth of university work to do before last post, and then back-to-back meetings in one form or another all Tuesday evening.

(to give invited speakers a change to respond to their invitations, or at the very least receive them, rather than learn they are invited from reading the website rather than personal correspondence).

While we have quite a few responses in already (all responses have been more than positive so far), we're still waiting on a few anyway, so I can breathe a little still ;)

I took a look at the website. Couldn't see much but I was pleased with what I could see. Good work David!

It'll look a bit Picasso until I add a style sheet, but thanks :)

Today's update on the web side of things!

I have:

  • Fixed the formatting.
  • Added "Speakers" page and short bios (can add more speakers later etc if needs be; I've only put in people whom I know have confirmed so far).
  • Fixed the "Venue" page so the "Click here to see location on a map" button actually presents the browser with the location on a map, rather than the International Auditorium's website.
  • Adjusted the "Contact" button to direct mail to "mail@imminst2010.com" rather than my standard email address.

All but "Program" and "Registration" sorted now; both require a few decisions be made before they can be implemented, decisions I can't make without first gathering a little more information.

The site should look ok in any (reasonable) browser and screen resolution.

  • Tested with up-to-date Safari and Firefox on a several year-old iMac, and a newish MacBook.
  • Also tested with up-to-date Safari on iPhone and iPad, so should work well with any reasonable mobile device.
  • Also tested in Internet Explorer 8.0, in Ye Olde Windows XP 5.0, on my wife's ancient Acer laptop, so people should be able to use the site just fine even if they're operating from a mixture of new and old software on a museum-piece.
