Hi,

Found this forum early this week whilst looking for alternative medicines for treatment of ADHD. I am ADHD-PI, have varying degrees of brain fog, severe concentration problems (which can lead to entire days of staring at a computer screen rather than doing work).

Note: I am aware this is an immortality forum that has been invaded by ADHD heads. To put your minds at ease, I am also interested in extended my lifespan (I've spent enough time shortening it).

I have recently stopped drinking (1 week, 3 days since last withdrawal nightmare/hallucination)
Also, stopped 4 months low dose (20-40mg daily) Codeine (1.5 weeks, still getting mild withdrawal symptoms; insomnia, restlessness)

Here is a quick rundown of my experiences so far:

Day 1

Evening (6PM):
2g Piracetam
.5g Choline Barbiturate
.2g ALCAR

Noticed increase in details observed whilst looking around (placebo?). Rhodiola and Ashwagandha before sleep, problems sleeping.

Day 2

Morning (8AM):
2g Piracetam
.5g Choline Barbiturate
.2g ALCAR

Wake up dehydrated. (note: I had this problem for 6 weeks after giving up alcohol last time)
Obvious buzzing at 10AM, slightly distracting, but overall focus increase.
Back to baseline at 2:30, loss of focus.
Headache, guessing rebound from recent excess of headache tablets. Lecithin didn't work. Ibuprofen sorted it out.
Ate some Rich Tea biscuits (6x8.4g), 20 mins later suddenly felt hyper again.

Evening (6PM):
2g Piracetam
.5g Choline Barbiturate
.2g ALCAR

Wake up dehydrated.
Physically and mentally knackered, Rhodiola and Ashwagandha before sleep, problems sleeping.

Day 3

Morning (8AM):
2g Piracetam
.8g Choline Barbiturate
.5g ALCAR

Initially no effect, then at 10AM, more Rich Tea Biscuits.
20 Mins later, more intense buzzing than yesterday, lasts until 2:30. Take 1g Piractem, fog returns as yesterday.

Now:

Wondering whether to drop the dose to 1g in the morning, and 1g in the evening or leave as is... Would like to be on the ball tomorrow night, going to a party, and I won't be drinking or anything...

Any thoughts?

"Choline barbiturate" is officially my favorite ImmInst typo.

I don't like the attack dose theory anyway, but I doubt one is needed if you're having this much of a reaction immediately. I would drop piracetam down to 800-1200mg, at least until the choline/brain fog issues are sorted out. You might try upping your dose of ALCAR to 1g each time (it's what I take, and is still pretty moderate). You might also want to up your dose of choline bitartrate, but honestly I have no idea what range is reasonable, and am too tired to search right now.

If you're going out tomorrow night, I would just not take piracetam. You won't incur any detriment by skipping a day, and you probably have at least a few days' tweaking dosages ahead of you before you can predict its effects.

But really, you should just ditch this nootropic crap and get scripts for adderall, ritalin and modafinil. All three. :P Just kidding; welcome to the board. Maybe if we life forever, we'll have time to figure out how to make our brains work right.

PS: What is a rich tea biscuit?

I would suggest waiting to dose with the Rhodiola Rosea until the morning if you're having problems sleeping. Low doses of RR are known to have a stimulating effect.

Thanks,

After last night I think it's time to drop the dose anyway. Had an argument, was so stressed I can still feel it throughout my body, didn't sleep well at all.

I'll let you know how it goes.

@Chrono:

A Rich Tea biscuit is a slightly sweet, dry biscuit which is fairly popular here in the UK. It's a good tea dunking snack.

Good grief, they even have their own Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_tea

Nice. I figured it was the kind of thing Miss Marple would serve at tea & scandal.

Also, ditto on the RR comment. I found larger doses somewhat mentally numbing, and made me feel a little off emotionally. I settled on taking half a 300mg cap in water for some extra stimulation/motivation while studying, and it had a pleasant (if subtle) effect.

OK, so after dropping my dose to 800mg piracetam and upping both choline and alcar to 1g I started to see some proper improvements in concentration and disappearance of the brain fog. I just recently went away for a couple of weeks and couldn't take the stuff with me so I am now on day three from starting from scratch.

Just added 2x400mg Aniracetam to the mix today as well, let's see what that does...

Out of interest, how are people taking Aniracetam? Soaked in olive oil?

I'm playing around with aniracetam atm, but I find it useful only for certain situations; not as a daily-use thing like piracetam and ALCAR. i.e. it improves certain aspects of cognition, but is detrimental to others.

I take it stirred up in milk. If you're drinking olive oil anyway it's fine, but I don't think it's necessary just for aniracetam. In fact, it would probably be fine just taking it with a meal, but I have heard that pre-dissolving in liquid improves absorption somewhat.

Interesting, in what areas of cognition would you say it is detrimental? My small dose yesterday really helped, I was able to focus all day...
