I couldn't find a previous topic dedicated just to DMAE.

I took it myself on its own for quite a while with good results. I feel slightly emotionally and psychologically more positive and more ready to approach work. I feel it 'cleans' my mind to approach topics a little more freshly.

I just took my last pill with 10mg of ritalin and 160mg of strattera (daily). And I find the combination works quite well and helps with procrastination etc. (I find strattera REALLY helps with procrastination) but that is more of a behavioural thing.

What are your thoughts on DMAE and what do you combine it with if you take it.
I like DMAE and would like to stack it with other nootropics too, any suggestions?

Try Twinlab's "DMAE H-3" liquid. Seems much stronger than the powder caps to me... GREAT stuff... large increases in focus and clarity within 20 mins (1ml on empty stomach).

It's a salt of DMAE in combination with PABA that is identical to a now discontinued prescription form called "Deaner", and provides better bioavailability and other preferential effects over plain DMAE.

This is the only nootropic that I actually take when not undertaking exams. I can not take choline as I get depressed from it, but with DMAE i actually feel pretty good. I take it every day normally just in the morning. The only other nootropic I am taking at the momen is vinpocetine.

Wow... the unholy DMAE!
I´ve tested this sooo many times and yet I still don´t really know what it does.
Some experiments have led to slightly racing thoughts / epileptic feelings... others have resulted in emotional numbness... or heightened motivation... It´s almost different every time, so maybe it´s doing nothing for me and it´s just the "normal going" of things.
I remember having a pretty intense manic reaction when using this combo:

DMAE
gotu kola
rhodiola rosea
cocoa powder
Piracetam (oh man... this is the devil for some...)

Even got quite a bit delusional, but at least managed to perform with my band (stripping mid way into the "show") Crazy times :D

How much are you taking at once? I always took the directions on the bottle, 1 pill 2-3 times a day.

Do you recommend more I think they're 250mg pills.

Try the Twinlab DMAE-H3 liquid... it's MUCH more effective than straight DMAE, and alot of health food stores carry it (for a reason... it sells because it works well). And its cheap... usually only $9.99/ounce bottle

yeah when I used to take centrophenoxine which is supposedly metabolized into dmae. I would definitely be rather hypo-maniac for like 2-3 hours afterward. Like uncontrollable giddiness/intense smiling/laughter at marginally funny things or just at random. It was enjoyable but sitting in a class with my roommate and just laughing randomly at thoughts in my head and being unable to make conversation in case I found it too funny was a little much lol... it's decent stuff though, don't take this as a bad report, just somewhat interesting or worrying if you are prone to mania O_O

Right now I am off DMAE, but have always stayed somewhere in the recommended dosage range (2-3 pills daily). Maybe five pills or something found their way down on special occasions.
I can´t really recommend any dose over another.

Whatever works for you. Personally I wasn't a fan. And there were some studies about it potentially being an ANTI-cholenegeric. If I were taking something that weren't a choline source for the cholenegeric boost, I would take centrophenoxine.

I wonder why the Twinlab product contains PABA.

I don't think this really answers your question, but on the site it says "the PABA salt of DMAE".
From what I found, PABA+DMAE= procaine (aka Novocain). Maybe this substance is more stable/cheaper/whatever, but it's supposed to break down into PABA and DMAE, and was promoted by a Romanian doctor in the 1960's for benefits in life extension among other things. Her preparation was known as Gerovital H3, which is probably why there is an H3 tacked on at the end of the Twinlabs sup.

So Twinlab's product is essentially Gerovital H3?

I believe so. In any case I really dont feel much from dry DMAE caps, but feel an immediate and potent effect from just 1ml of the DMAE-H3 product... who knows if the PABA has any effect, the improved reaction may just be to its being in fast-absorbing liquid form... I just know it works rather well, at least for me.

Interesting. I never felt anything from PABA alone, but will give the liquid a spin.

I think Gerovital breaks down into PABA and DEAE, not DMAE. As I understand it, they are related compounds but not the same. Twinlab came up with something new with DMAE-H3, probably because the research results seemed stronger with DMAE than procaine, but they wanted to capitalize on the Gerovital name.
