What helps the brain that's endured stress?

The current price at IAS for Stablon (tianeptine) would set me back $100 a month for the usual therapeutic dose. I was just curious if anyone on the forum has dealt with an Indian or other third world supplier for prescription drugs and has received satisfactory service. I could handle the additional $100 a month for the short term, but over time it would cut into my budget for other things. I may give it a try though (from IAS) as the expense may be worth it to justify sacrificing other things.

Regarding Tianeptine vs Deprenyl. I have used both and I must say that there is no comparison. Tianeptine is way better, both in terms of cognition improvement and the subjective feeling. Tianeptine is not only an antidepressant but it is also a mood brightener. Tianeptine can actually be euphoric, if taken at 25mg + sublingually.
Deprenyl can be a mood brightener, but for me those effects necessitate doses which produce insomnia and agitation.
Might taking tianeptine sublingually be a cheaper way of dosing one's tianeptine? Is first pass metabolism necessary for the therapeutic effect? Does swallowing the pill render it significantly less bioavailable, and essentially waste some of the tianeptine that might be better utilized sublingually?
Your thoughts please!
-John
PS: I guess one possibility is that the near-euphoric effect lynx felt from sublingual dosing might have occurred because of its rapid absorption whereas swallowing the pill would have smoothed it out.

Yes, sublingual works like a charm with Tianeptine, in fact it helped make it an affordable option for me.
Lynx,
I was reading about it and it has a short half life so I think it would still have to be dosed 3 times/day. But how have you adjusted the dose: e.g. 1/2 tab sublingualy 3 times/day?
FYI: in case it has not come up it is a bad idea to stop taking tianeptine abruptly as it can result in....I think it is rebound high blood pressure.

So what do you do . . . just pop the whole pill below your tongue and let it dissolve over 5-10 minutes?

Hi Scott,
It's always a pleasure reading your posts and benefitting from your knowledge. Thank you.
Last night as I was researching tianeptine I happened upon an article (PDF) discussing the mechanism of action of anti-depressants. Here is a quote:
Immediate dosing
of antidepressants produces little in the way of subjective or
behavioral effects (other than side effects). Substantial
improvement in depressive symptoms occurs only if the
drugs are taken at adequate dosage and with adequate
frequency and permanence. However, it may not be
necessary to maintain constant therapeutic serum levels for
efficacy (25,26). Therefore, based on the framework
developed by Hyman and Nestler, antidepressant-induced
increases in synaptic serotonin or norepinephrine or
dopamine, can be conceptualized as initiating events for
long-term changes in neural function (26). It is the adaptive
response of the nervous system to adequate repeated
perturbations mediated through these initial targets that
produces the therapeutic responses to antidepressants.
I wonder if something similar can be said about low-dose, chronic amphetamine use. I take about 20mg of dextroamphetamine daily and find on off-days that I have no withdrawal symptoms and I'm more functional than I ever was before dextroamphetamine.
Regards,
-John

Otherwise you are going to have a beautiful honeymoon period with it, which is fine if you can afford the extra $ it will be sucking from your wallet.

The oral bioavailabity is 99% but the faster onset of sublingual makes it a preferred option, making effects more apparent and seem better.

After spending close to $40 with shipping for 2 bottles of 30 (12mg) capsules I had to find a cheaper way to get this product since it's different than other depression meds and works better than anything I've tried so far personally....it's an SSRE and not the usual SSRI. [ Selective Serotonin Reuptake Enhancer Vs. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor]
you can get tianeptine in powder form with is waaaaay cheaper and you get 1 gram (1000 milligrams) for like $20 and thats enough for 3 of the 12.5mg doses a day for almost 27 days. One thing I found from trying it this way is that you MUST BUY A SCALE FOR PROPER DOSING .... I was using a "3mg-7mg" supplement scoop and the doses were way too much and I blew through my supply in a quarter the amount of the time I had thought, which sucked. I felt great but TOOOOO GREAT and it was wasted.
Long story short, if you are looking to trying Tianeptine sublingual then the powder form is probably the easiest and cheapest way to do so. IT HAS A WEIRD TASTE so prepare your mouth for that but if its a faster absorption and quicker onset then sign me up! maybe drink some citrus juice or something to chase it down.
