Turmeric is the yellow spice common to Indian Cuisine and curry containing high concentrations of curcumin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curcumin
Curcumin is a target for research due to purported anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-cancer, anti-depressant, and anti-alzheimer effects.

I recently noticed under bioavailability section that piperine (the chemical that gives black pepper its flavor) MAY increase bioavailability of curcumin by 2000%.
So having ground turmeric and black pepper on hand, I drank1/2 tsp turmeric mixed with 1/8 tsp black pepper and warm water.

A calming\focusing effect was noticed. I then repeated the same dosage to verify there was indeed minor psychoactive effects.

I would consider this combination worthy of future investigation for future nootropic\mental stacks for use as a mild antidepressant\serotogenic without any concentration impairing effects. If anyone else has experience using Turmeric\Curcumin in a health or nootropic stack, please feel free to share your thoughts.

On a tradeoff basis i believe its the best nootropic. I use it twice a day at one heaped teaspoon in a oil suspension as curcumin is oil soluable. Effects compund with time and there is a strong growth factor effect. It is pretty mild but i would claim it causes greater cognitive flexiability.
Its mode of action is invloved with increase excityosis. This stuff is really good for you

Yup
I tried it two days ago. A bit too much (two tablespoons) with black pepper. Not a very pleasant taste but nice effects on mood and tension.

How much is "one heaped teaspoon" of turmeric twice a day in milligrams?

I have a scale. A heaping teaspoon, at most is ~4.5g, obviously there's quite a large variability but between 3.5 and 4.5 seems like a safe bet. In terms of curcumin content, some resellers guarantee a certain % curcuminoids, the one I use Frontier's organic turmeric, which is assayed at 4% min content. The non-organic variety is guaranteed at 5% min. Therefore 1 teaspoon of 4% gives you ~ 160-180mg of well absorbed curcumin. Plus it contains a variety of other beneficial substances, at least one of which can be considered as "active" an ingredient as curcuminoids.
