I am looking for a good, healthy whey protein to add into my smoothies. For this purpose, I am not concerned about weight gain or building muscle mass. Consensus was that NOW Whey Protein Isolate looked good:

I am about to buy it, but thought I'd ask if anyone knows of a healthier whey protein product.

Bulk would be best I believe... and cheaper.

I use this kind, I like the fact that it's pure whey isolate, nothing else added.

I use the unflavored NOW whey protein isolate. Appears to be very high quality, they claim their processing results in a better amino acid profile while getting rid of the casein? and some other dairy garbage I believe. No extraneous bs like sweetners in there. Best price I have been able to find is from allstarhealth.com. I buy the 10 lb. bags and have been pretty happy so far. Throw some cocunut milk, a banana, some frozen berries and some cocoa powder together with it and I'm good to go.

But I get diarrhea while on this Protein Isolate from NOW similar to the diarrhea effect from drinking milk. I then added some digestive enzyme to help break down lactose which helped somewhat but still not good enough. Does any of you have this problem?

Bluebonnet Nutrition Whey Protein Isolate

I fell for the marketing:

Unlike the common practice of using a heat-processes whey protein isolate that can denature (render useless) the protein and immunoglobulins, Bluebonnet employs a special low-temperature method, which leaves the protein and immunoglobulins intact.

# No artificial sweeteners/flavors
# No added sugar/fat
# Low sodium/cholesterol

Ingredients:
Undenatured whey protein isolate, natural vanilla flavor.
Free of egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soybeans.
Also free of corn, yeast, gluten, barley, rice and sugar.

Yup, i use it for smoothie too. Here's a good recipe:

I also add the Now Adam multivitamin to it (because it tastes bad and is hard to swallow) as well as half a tablet of B-Vitamin Complex.

The healthiest protein powder I have found (and I've tried a lot) is Raw Organic Whey: RawOrganicWhey[dot]com

Whey protein powders are definitely not all created equally and you have to seriously consider what you are putting in your body. What's the point of spending all the time at the gym or on the trails if you're just putting crap back in, right?

First, what the cows eat IS important as well as how they are raised. You don't want hormones, GMO grain feed, or pesticides. You do want organic grass-fed, which is nutritionally superior.

Second, processing of the whey is also important. Whey concentrate is better than isolates due to being much less processed. Still, you have to go further and make sure the whey is processed at low temps and without acid treatment which can denature the amino acids making it harder for your body to digest and assimilate.

In my opinion it doesn't really matter, they are all pretty similar. Just look at one with low carbs, high protein content, and low calories. Personally I use muscletech whey, it's cheap and very healthy.

If you want "best" you should go for whey produced from the milk of grass-fed hormone-free cows, i.e. from healthy animals.

I have been using bodylogix whey protein sold at Meijer. You get 31 scoops per each 2 pound container and each soop has 24g of protein. One 2 pound container costs about $19.95 in the store.

http://www.meijer.co...rams/_/R-208952

The protein is sweetened with Stevia, and the container says it's BSE, rBGH free, Gluten free, and GMO free. The powder mixes easy and tastes good, but it does not mix very thick in water, it makes a thinner drink than most protein shakes I have used. If you mix it with milk it is of course thicker.

The powder is made by "The winning combination" / Bodylogix, http://www.winning-combination.com/

I use NOW Naturally Unflavored Whey Protein Isolate. Completely unflavored with no extra sugar, etc. It tastes like really diluted Milk, which I prefer. Can be constipating for some.

Been using Jarrow unflavored for a year now with good results. Recently added NOW's unflavored Egg White protein to get a slightly slower component without having to deal with Casein.

How about a Whey protein isolate that 1-Does not contain Soy Lecithin and 2-Is still not very expensive?

I find it odd that there is so many bad things said about soy but all these whey isolate powders contain it.
