The most likely option for immortality is for people to model their minds in a digital simulation. Once the person has transferred their mind (upon organic death the digital form is activated), what legal rights are available to them? The digital simulation would require physical assets (perhaps serviced) and their model (intellectual property) can be protected by copyrights. Still, a person must have ownership. Even if the intellectual property were owned by a corporation, shareholders and officers are needed.

Can a digital simulation ever be legally independent of organic life?
