I heard this song a long time ago, and its now part of a new movie and part of an unrelated commercial, so we hear it more now. So now this song has been really haunting me as of late.
I often feel haunted in general. For example most of us, I know I do, often long for old times. I feel like Ive missed out by not being able to partake in the 1600s, or the days of the Roman empire, be a black smith in the bronze age, a barber in Socrates village, a beatnik, or a bystander during the bolshevik revolution. This has happened to me before, but yesterday for example I was driving down the road, thinking about how I need to remember to not take this fleeting life for granted, and I developed this perspectified tunnel vision that I absolutely love, where I get a direct feeling that this place I am in here now is quickly crumbling away and will soon, is pretty much already, a part of ancient history, that the far off future will soon be here and this will all be just a rumor, a part of history longed for and mostly forgotten, rotted into and covered over by the sands of time. Now thats not the part I love, the part I love is that I feel my real place in time. I feel like more of a part of the big picture. Mostly, I feel as though I am living in ancient times. Its like I get to see the forests and the roads and dwellings and people that were once here a long time ago, even though its not a long time ago yet.
This Cash song is about god, but I just omit that part when contemplating it. To redo the lyrics with a more indefinite life extension related theme:
