Hey guys ive wondering if there are any nootropics that help increase sprinting/running speed. Maybe through increasing processing speed or motor neuron firing!? im not really certain how but just wondering if anyone can help?

Thanks Alot! :)

You might find something that helps. Your best bet would be experimenting with a variety of noots imo.

There are supplements that surely do this {see a bodybuilding forum for example). As for noots that seem to have an ancillary effect on my bike riding, I have noticed some improvement in my somewhat pathetic sprints when riding with friends, particularly after a few hours, both with ALCAR and memantine. .

Not a Nootropic (per se) but beta-alanine is Scientifically Proven!

J Appl Physiol. 2010 Jul 29.

Important role of muscle carnosine in rowing performance.
The role of the presence of carnosine (beta-alanyl-L-histidine) in millimolar concentrations in human skeletal muscle is poorly understood. Chronic oral beta-alanine supplementation is shown to elevate muscle carnosine content and improve anaerobic exercise performance during some laboratory tests, mainly in the untrained. It remains to be determined whether carnosine loading can improve single competition-like events in elite athletes. The aims of the present study were to investigate if performance is related to the muscle carnosine content and if beta-alanine supplementation improves performance in highly-trained rowers. Eighteen Belgian elite rowers were supplemented for 7 weeks with either placebo or beta-alanine (5 g/day). Before and following supplementation, muscle carnosine content in soleus and gastrocnemius medialis was measured by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H-MRS) and the performance was evaluated in a 2000 m ergometer test. At baseline, there was a strong positive correlation between 100 m, 500 m, 2000 m and 6000 m speed and muscle carnosine content. After beta-alanine supplementation, the carnosine content increased by 45.3 % in soleus and 28.2 % in gastrocnemius. Following supplementation, the beta-alanine group was 4.3 s faster than the placebo group, whereas before supplementation they were 0.3 s slower (p=0.07). Muscle carnosine elevation was positively correlated to 2000 m performance enhancement (p=0.042 and r=0.498). It can be concluded that the positive correlation between baseline muscle carnosine levels and rowing performance and the positive correlation between changes in muscle carnosine and performance improvement suggest that muscle carnosine is a new determinant of rowing performance.

thanks for the quick response! im not really looking for bodybuilding supplements that would increase my speed through physicial means such as increasing muscle mass and muscular strength. im looking more for nootropic or brain drugs that increase brain transmission messages such as to tell the muscle to contract quicker. that sort of thing. does anybody have an idea of what im on about?

Thanks Again

Then I think any and all Nootropics would be relevant to you then, as the goal of all of them is to increase brain/cognitive function...

Memantine and ALCAR would be ok to good

Modafinil would be the best, a strongish stimulant, with far lower downsides. If you look at the Mechanism of action as portrayed on wikipedia, you will be able to come up with multipule theories regarding the benefits. I would aim to use not more than 3 times per week, as it does lose efficiousy.

General supplements that increase the antioxidant and metabolic capacity, of the brain, will really help in a subtle way. I dont take commerical vitamin E or C. Seleniomethionine is my favourite.

Lions Mane has been show to increase Nevre Growth factor. It is really hard not to underestimate the importance of health nevre function in optimal strength. For an example, if you change a fast twitch nevre to a slow twitch muscle, you end up with a fast twitch muscle.

Thanks alot for that information. Really was helpful! im quite curious about the lions mane. so with the increase of nerve growth factor would i be able to grow/create new fast twtich nerves as you said? as that would be what im really looking for!

Maybe
You can definitly increase the coordination, quality and quantity of electrical stimulation, this should allow greater fast twitch mass, with greater strength denisty. I do understand atheletic individuals can increase the number of fast twitch nerves, through greater neurological plasticity(I think the science is rather quiet here tho).

In addition to what was said, I would recommend you to take a look at nootropics with stimulant properties: Phenotropil and Ladasten.(But note that they are considered as a doping by World Anti-Doping Agency).
And did you try Modafinil? I am sure it should work too.

Sorry for bumping an old thread i was just wondering if there is a nootropic that could increase neurological plasticity?
