How much "can" you take? No idea. 1-2g (dried) seems to be the normal amount.

Wow, I'm actually growing Lions Mane (Hericium erinaceus) and had no idea it has nootropic properties.

Looking at my mushroom books I see now it "produces Eninacines (=erinacines), which are strong stimulators to nerve growth factors (Kawagishi et al, 1991, 1994)...stimulate neurons to regrow, potentially significant in the treatment of senility, Alzheimer's disease, repairing neurological trauma from strokes, improving muscle/motor response pathways, and cognitive function."

Can't believe I missed that. Sorry I can't advise on doseage.

I understand that the chinese do eat this as a food, in soups etc, this maybe dosages in the 20-50 gram range. A large study conducted in Japan used a dosage of 5 grams once per day, this makes me believe that optimal dosage is probably in 3-10 gram range.

The study with 5 grams used dried mushrooms. IIRC, mushrooms weight about 10x less when you dry them out.

I think something like 1-4g is probably more reasonable, since we're not AD patients.
