I'm trying to treat: Depression, memory impairment from long term stress, and OCD.

Supplements I'm trying: New Chapter, St. John's SC27 270 MG, Huperzine A 200 mcg, and LEF Super BIO-Curcumin, 400 mg (also have Jarrow's 500MG I'm stack for a bit unless I notice anything like serotonin syndrome effects)

Rationale:

St. John's Wort: Neuroprotective, nootropic, clinically proven OCD treatment, and aids in healing stress induced brain damage through inhibition of protein kinase C (the same mechanism Lithium used in this study: http://www.medicalne...cles/163473.php)

Huperzine A: Increases nerve factor growth (which promotes brain cell regeneration) also to protect from glutamate excitotoxicity, and for it's NMDA agonist and acetylcholinesterase inhibitation.... basically a natural Memantine which I hope will provide a mood and energy boost that's synergistic to SJW and curcumin.

Curcumin: MAOI, and would be synergistic with SJW for mood and energy, reduces glutamate excitotoxicity. Also promotes hippocampal neurogenesis for brains exposed to chronic stress, etc.

There's hundreds more reasons for these three, but those were the reasons off my head. What does everyone think? Anything to look out for, or any better adjuncts?

Note: Lithium is out of the question, so is a nicotene patch for the moment.

I choose the bio-curcum because it's devoid of peperine, that was something I was worried about. I read it inhibits drug metabolism. Is there anything with the other two that might cause this issue?

I chose the New Chapter's SC27 because it only has hyperforin. From my reading hypericin makes you photosensitive and can cause cataracts, but i really want to try the Kira brand. i was thinking of taking either lutin or astaxanthan to off set the photo sensitivity.

Here's a good repository for curcumin studies:

Curcumin, SJW and nicotine will probably help.

Huperzine A is a NMDA antagonist. The effects are however negligible and won't do much, chrono made a good post about this a while back and in theory it seems highly unlikely it would do anything for tolerance. Unless you want an effective AChEI you might want to skip the Huperzine.

FunkOdyssey made a good post about hyperzine which got me interested: Link It sounded like a nice adjunct to the SJW and curcumin I'm now taking.

I'm afraid of combining SJW + curcumin + nicotne as they['re all MAOI's and I'd be afraid of serotonin syndrome. SJW + nicotne is something I want to try eventually though.

Perhaps SJW and curcumin is a bad idea because of the MAOI-A effects of curcumin as you say, I don't know for sure. As a side note: here is something I found about SJW being an extremely weak MAOI.

Just so you know, nicotine most certainly isn't a MAOI. Though MAO A inhibition enhances the addictive properties of nicotine. No idea if this is relevant for the degree of MAO A inhibition curcumin displays, just a heads up.

What about: St. John's Wort + Curcumin + Piractam?
I have lots of piracetam on hand

The only thing with piracetam is I took it for a few months last year, and when I stopped I felt worse off than I started. After discontinuation I felt dumb. This wasn't because piracetam exerted a huge difference when i was on it, I honestly felt worse off than i started.

Is there any reason for this? Anyone else experience this?
