I'm currently 18 with hair loss and considering a curcumin/resveratrol combo to try halt it.

I am a very early developer, have a full beard and chest hair at 16. I'm 5"5 now and have been for the past 2 years (could have been earlier, that's when I last measured)

My dads 5"9 and my mums 4"11, my brothers 5"7/8 so I was never destined to be a giant. My dad claims he had a height growth at around 24 (was shorter than my uncle, now taller) and my brother who is now 25 claims to have grown an inch the past 2 years, so I am wondering if genetically I may grow again a bit later on?

Searching on this forum is very slow and I keep getting errors, I've read the clavical fuses at around 23 and you shouldn't take resveratrol before then, as it may stunt heighht growth although some people say it could produce the opposite effect.

Is there any actual studies done on this? What is the current beliefs and understanding about it?

Thanks a lot.

People typically stop growing around age 21, though it's certainly possible to grow taller into your early 20s, as long as your epiphyseal plates haven't been "replaced". I stopped getting taller by age 16 (I'm 5'11") though I doubt my epiphyseal plates were closed. Sort of a genetic and nutritional roll of the dice, as it were.

Do you think I may have stopped growing then? Do you think I should take resveratrol?

The estrogen mimetic effect of resveratrol leads to premature closing of the growth plates, which affects height, and breadth as well; the clavicle is the last bone where the plate closes, typically around age 23 in males, but there is some variation. This is one reason I've suggested one should not take resveratrol before that age. There are other, possible subtle effects as well. Before full sexual maturity and growth are achieved, don't use it.

Male pattern baldness at 18 is probably a sign of more than normal DHT (di-hydro testosterone) receptors on the scalp, and a high testosterone level. Drugs to block these receptors can delay or stop the progression of male pattern baldness. I do not think resveratrol will do this, and it might make things worse. It is an anti-aromatase, and could increase the amount of testosterone and thus of DHT, speeding up the process.

www.drproctor.com has considerable information on means of treating hair loss, as well as products that could help.
