Bad smelling ALCAR

About 6 months ago I got some ALCAR that one of our board members gave to me cause he had it left over from an attempted supplement business. I finally opened it today, it was sealed, and it smells terrible. Like rancid vinegar. I doubt this is how ALCAR is supposed to smell. Toss it?

ALCAR does smell pretty ... erm... sour. Rancid vinegar? Don't know what that smells like, I think it smells like malt vinegar.

I just opened up a cap from a new bottle of good quality sigma tau ALCAR. It smelled like acetic acid. I think that is probably normal for alcar. It's probably just a bit of the acetyl group hydrolysing off. If you get your nose in it, it's pretty acrid, but it shouldn't be toxic. It's just converting to a mixture of vinegar and carnitine, neither of which are bad for you. Keeping it scrupulously dry would probably slow the process down.

Yup alcar smells and tastes like vinegar. Careful of your teeth when you swallow it, I always found it softened the enamel.

completely normal for ALCAR. if you think it smells bad, wait til you actually taste it.

Be also be careful of the amounts of ALCAR you take. It can make you smell like fish and most importantly you won't recognise it yourself!
It has happened to a friend of mine. He was taking a couple of grams per day.

I opened a capsule also from Sigma Tau (that I had from before) and it does smell like vinegar but it also smells like fish kinda to me.

Be also be careful of the amounts of ALCAR you take. It can make you smell like fish and most importantly you won't recognise it yourself!
