Am I nuts for seriously contemplating buying this car:

And the product description:
1959 Citroën DS19 Prestige, LHD, Fuel Injection, ManualI am delighted to be able to offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy my 1959 Chapron DS19 Prestige as displayed at 2005 DS 50th expo in Paris in Oct. The car is in excellent condition inside and out and is 1 of about 6 Prestige car built that year being the introduction year for that model. It is possible that this is the Prototype car due to a number of unusual features: 12-volt but twin coils Prestige script on the dash and boot 4 x buttons in the rear 1/4 trim. etc. We have now traced all of the owners for this car and now know that this was the French Military Attache car in Rome. It was also the car that was blessed by Pope John XXIII. Since then the car has been through a number of ownerships and had the front wings and roof replaced. We have located the original Military Bonnet and the first Parisian registration number wheame a civilian car in 1966. full details please email or call. This car has now been fully UK registered MOT'd and serviced. The car is a New Book and is going to feature in a DS book in the Summer.

Or maybe this creature:

No wonder, it's the Roman Catholicism on wheels. As long as we're talking aesthetics, I would suggest the other one, IMHO the Cit doesn't reach that sweet spot of nice vintageness, it just looks like a grumpy reactionist's ride ;) .

If wasting your money is the goal then the Citroen is the way to go. It is an excellent car, don't get me wrong but the parts will cost you what parts for a Lamborghini will here in the states. That is if you can get them at all.

It is a classic and if you buy then I suggest you keep your Prius for the daily grind it was designed for and this for fun and dates.

As for the DeLorean I would buy that of the two choices though parts for that are less expensive than the Citroen. Its performance isn't all that great but parts are slightly easier to come by. The engine is an underpowered V-6 and if the choice is a standard 5-speed you'll be better off. The body won't have any rust due to being stainless steel but the under carriage should be checked for cracks and bad welds. I remember them as being a headache for AC. Do you live in a hot/humid region?

Wiki has a good article on it. DeLorean

The windows offer very limited ventilation and the car needs AC on a pleasant day which additionally stresses the underpowered engine. Don't expect anywhere near the fuel economy of the Prius from either car but I think the Citroen is better than the DeLorean on that score depending on which engine it has. It probably handles better than the Delorean on mountain roads as well. Though I believe there is a standard mod for a fusion drive that works on biomass with a time machine add-on.

Anyway I hope you enjoy which ever you get.

BTW, which model/year Prius and how much are you asking for it?

just keep in mind that even then the engine runs on ordinary gasoline. It always has.

Blessed by the Pope? Wow, what girl could turn that down? Anything that happens in the car is automatically not a sin! What is the 'troon going for, if I may ask?

I think it's going to auction. But if it's too pricey, they made a die-cast model for ya that includes Pope Johnny:

The Citroen offers the advantage of driving a historic and visionary vehicle, and perhaps, one of the greatest automobiles of the 20th Century. But it wouldn't be a very practical purchase, because I'm more interested in a primary vehicle, and such would be more of an example of a pleasure vehicle that's used primarily for weekend excursions. Additionally, this particular car is embarrassingly expensive, and would certainly require a more extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering, which is knowledge that might be too late to sufficiently accumulate. So I suppose I'm leaning towards the DeLoreans, which have been refurbished, and to a limited extent, are being manufactured---with extensive modifications---by a company in Texas. The Delorean would also have some of the aforementioned limitations, and although I'm becoming increasingly keen to buy one, I'm wondering if I should keep the Prius as a stand-by. After all, my girlfriend---and likely wife---has expressed some interest in using it as a replacement.

I intentionally left the price out because I didn't want to seem like too much of an upper class twit, but I will say the asking price is the equivalent of 30,156,306 Zimbabwean dollars.

Like I said, I think I'll pass on the Prius---which is a 2007---to my special lady friend, but her Honda Pilot will probably be going on the market. But who knows, because I'm not really sure where we left things. As for my region, I'm living in Iowa, but have a place in D.C., and will probably be working in D.C., New York, or Texas----where I'll be going to for an interview this month.

Hey, I found that exact Citroen on the net! The only thing that's different is that the car at dsworldltd.com is carbureted, not injected. That's actually a good thing; I would absolutely shudder at the thought of keeping a 1959 set of French injectors functioning. Carbs are easy. Should you ultimately get either of these projects (I hesitate to call them 'cars', which implies a utility as reliable transport), you should definitely keep the Prius, or maybe something with a stout tow bar.

Courtesy of some unscrupulous guy on Youtube, The Day of the Jackal---where I first became enchanted with the Citroen. Anyway, watch the exhilarating first scene that features an assassination attempt on de Gaulle, whom miraculously escapes in a Citroen DS. But please consider buying the movie, so the filmmakers get their just royalties.

The assassination attempt is based on real events, but in the actual attempt, the OAS assassins managed to take out two wheels, which fortunately didn't prevent the Citroen from escaping at full speed.
