Hi there, immortalists, technologists, futurists and general fans of living. I am getting ready to start up the "show" again. I am hunting down a couple potential interviews and am shooting for a new episode before the end of March.

One thing that was discussed over the past few months was the possibility of a new name. Sunday Evening Update is a generic name that doesn't link the show definitively to Imminst or Longecity. Maybe we can come up with something more creative. Please list some suggestions. If we are going heavy into branding "Longecity" then perhaps it should be in the new title. I am willing to stick with "Sunday Evening Update" as well.

As far as some of the special touches go, one thing I had in the past was theme song to intro and extro the show. It was a from a free soundtrack music website. It was a futuristic cowboy/western type song. It was pretty good, but what would be even better if some of the more artistic talented members here at Imminst came up with something original. I guess I would be looking for something modern with a positive attitude, but what the heck, any little diddy might strike the right tone. See what you can come up with.

Right now, it looks like I will be going to see Nason next weekend, so that will comprise a large part of the first episode. In case you didn't know, Nason is re-starting the laser ablation research. I'll try to get a good "scoop" on how it will progress.

I posted some pictures of Nason's new set-up over in the laser ablation thread. I also got some video that I will be editing this week and using during an upcoming of the Sunday Evening Update.

For music I found this website that has really good things. I like the ones under the "intense" category for a show like this because they are like telling the viewer that something great is coming up :-)

http://incompetech.c...ndex.html?feels[]=Intense

About the name I think that has to be something different than "Sunday Evening Update". The first time I saw that name I thought: "update of what? why Sunday? why evening? what is this all about?". As you know I hate to use the name Longecity at this point but if you think you are going to use the name in the show you should probably use it in the title of the show as well.

Thanks for the suggestions JD! I am not committed to using Longecity in the title, but if it is going to catch on or given a fair shake, then here is where it might be used.

I am cleaning up the studio/office right now. Going to paint it (blue-ish like our website) and hopefully make it look a bit more professional.

GREAT! I can't wait to watch the show again. Now we have the non-profit account on youtube and we can upload the shows in just one piece (not split it into several parts) so let me know when a show is ready and you want it to be in the imminst channel. I didn't have time to edit and improve previous shows, but I can give you a hand for the new ones if you want to keep only some parts of the video or something like that before to upload them to the youtube channel.

The past shows were kind-of lengthy - because I like to gab. The 2.0 version will hopefully be more efficiently produced and tighter/shorter. The "important" content part of the show should be more friendly toward the podcast/youtube crowd.

Ok, I am setting the opening show of the 2011 season for April 10th, 4pm central time U.S., which if my calculations are correct is 2100 GMT. It will focus on Nason restarting the worm research and I will show some of the video I captured from my visit to the lab. I will also try to come up with some other entertaining things to talk about.

Sounds great. I thought the Nason visit constituted the first show of this new series but now I know. JD reminds us, I forgot we have longer upload ability now so we arent limited to the 14 minutes Caliban has been talking about. I liked the longer ones but shorter shows will probably get more views. Maybe there is a way you can segment them so people can watch the segments they want, like snake oil, supplements and sponsors, other Longecity general news, and then interview?

I think Longecity in the name will really help give Longecity a fairer shake too.

I will use some of the video from my Nason visit during the show.

As far as "14 minutes", I am aiming for a dense segment of the show that can be ported to other sites or listened to as an mp3. Something that is packed with more information and produced well. The rest of the show will be other news and interesting things.

For a new name. Here are some fairly tame ones we have been tossing around - using Longecity:

Longecity This Week
Longecity Tonight
Longecity Chat
Longecity Time

Any other suggestions, with or without using Longecity

I think "Longecity Time" is the best of the list. "This Week" and "Tonight" are conditioning the show for a determined period of time, and "Chat" for a specific activity.

I agree that we shouldn't tie it to a timeslot.
I think 'time' is a bit odd given the pairing.
I still like 'broadcast' - its a bit clunky, but conveys whats happing.
I like 'chat' because it continues a long tradition (BJ wanted to call them 'fireside chats')

Just painting part of the "studio" more Longecity-type color.

Well, I did attempt to record a new episode today, but I experienced some un-anticipated technical troubles, and my internet crashed around 4:05, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Will try again tomorrow. I did get the basic camera, microphone, and lighting set-up and managed to record a little introduction video. I have so far decided to go with Longecity Time for a name, but this is a process of discovery and perhaps we will come up with something different or change it in the future (maybe longecity chat).

Also, with the help of member JDKasinsky, I did manage to upload one of the Nason videos to the Imminst youtube channel.

Mind, you will have noticed that after the initial rescheduling, I intentionally left the date of the show flexible in the newsletter.
Another illustration why 'live' is precarious and we better focus on quality.
If you feel the segment is more or less done, please send the material or link via email and I can help edit it.

If putting things on youtube or elsewhere, please remember to put them on to the videos system
http://www.longecity.org/forum/videos/ straight away.

Your call, but to recap: arguments in favor of "longecity chat":
-- tradition (going back to the IRC days)
-- accurate (usually its an interview or someone chatting with the audience)
'Talks' works as well and sounds more official.

'Time' to me doesn't convey the nature of the product and I still think it sits oddly with the other word (when is longecity time? Isn't it always? Isn't it forever?)

I apologize for not getting to it this weekend. I am proud of the fact that I usually keep appointments. Sunday was my one shot at getting a new show started. A record outbreak of tornadoes torpedoed Sunday and I didn't have the appropriate software upgrades to get the Lipo show to run smoothly on Monday. I failed, however, I am making incremental improvements to my broadcast/recording capability and keep moving forward. It will not be long before I have a good 14 minute (or so) segment ready for podcast. It will have to be after this weekend though, because I am now preparing for a big family visit this weekend. I apologize for the delay, but I want it to be good.

I posted another in the series of videos I recorded at Nason's lab. Take a look here.

I am still plodding along getting my computer and software set up properly for new live broadcasts.

Please for the love of science make sure the audio is almost perfect. The interview with Arthur de Vany was disappointing due to the low quality of the audio.

The audio quality has gotten consistently better through the years do to improvements in VOIP and cell networks. I have also been putting up sound dampening foam in the office/studio.

Longecity Now. I like it. Thanks for the suggestions and comments.

While I am testing out various software and hardware configurations and working the bugs out, I am also setting up some future interviews. Universe willing, we will get an update from Jan and Fong in a couple of weeks (Mitochondria Uncoupling research.

Caliban has posted an mp3 of my recent Nason interview. Basically, it is the show I have been planning, sans video. It has a lot of good information on the physics and biology of lipofuscin and its removal.
