Newsletter Archive>>
Hello!
Thanks for joining BJKlein in our ongoing mission to kill death. This newsletter focuses on a few of the most intriguing and insightful posts being made by members and moderators on the forum. I hope you have a chance to take a look at at least one of the excellent threads. The give and take of the debates on the forums is educational and delightfully stimulating!
Topic: Living Forever
"For me, the prime of youth (in the context of living forever) represents a vitally important capacity for choice: physically, to enjoy the full potential of my body without concerning myself with its limits; mentally, to remain agile and versatile, both analytically and creatively; emotionally, to remain wholly flexible in the quality of my responses; spiritually, to appreciate the endless depths of truth and beauty without end. So, yes, it is the prime of youth that I seek to retain, and the time to do what I please within the bounds of some reasonable concept of morality and responsibility.
There is (as yet) no cure for aging, and so it may appear that time is always against us, but the wisdom of the ages tells me that I can learn to make time my friend by (1) making time for myself in the silence of solitude, and (2) by learning to negotiate the different kinds of time perception (see The 48 Laws of Power, law #35) and learning to govern my overall perception of time. In doing so, I have found that in the last several years, I feel like I have lived for a very, very long time." Post By: Sophianic; Forum Topic: How Long?
Topic: Singularity
"The 'Singularity' is a natural, non-mystical, technologically triggered event. We, the Singularitarians, are allied in the purpose of bringing about a natural event through natural means, not sitting in a circle chanting over a computer. There are thousands, perhaps millions, of stories and prophecies and rituals that allegedly involve something that could theoretically be described as "greater-than-human intelligence". What distinguishes the Singularitarians is that we want to bring about a natural event, working through ultratechnologies such as AI or nanotech, without relying on mystical means or morally valent effects." Topic: Cryonics
"Most implications and applications of freezing to biology arise from the effective stoppage of time at -196 degrees C. Tissue preserved in liquid nitrogen can survive centuries without deterioration. This simple fact provides an imperfect time machine that can transport us almost unchanged from the present to the future: we need merely freeze ourselves in liquid nitrogen. If freezing damage can someday be cured. then a form of time travel to the era when the cure is available would be possible" Post By: thefirstimmortal; Topic: Cryonics - Will It Work?
Topic: Asteroid Impact
BobDrake12 has contributed much to the discussion of a possible catastrophic asteroidal impact. This forum thread is chock full of information and excellent photos (Forum Thread).
Some 587 large, potentially threatening asteroids have been found near Earth. All are bigger than 1 kilometer (0.6 miles), the threshold for what most researchers agree could cause global catastrophe. None of these rocks is on course to hit Earth. But there are about 500 more that have yet to be found, according to leading estimates. News Link

Health Focus: Unhealthy Propaganda
With time we see clearer what might have been thought of as healthy and helpful. A case in point is the tobacco industries deceptive advertisement of "healthy" cigarettes in the early 1900's. Other examples can be found even today in other industries as human nature does not change. (Forum Link)
