One two free four
The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime
You shuffle in the gloom of the sick room
And talk to yourself as you die
Life is a short warm moment
And death is a long cold rest
You get your chance to try the twinkling of an eye
Eighty years with luck or even less
So all aboard for the American tour
And maybe you'll make it to the top
But mind how you go, and I can tell you 'cause I know
You may find it hard to get off
But you are the angel of death
And I am the dead man's son
He was buried like a mole in a fox-hole
And everyone's still on the run
And who is the master of foxhounds
And who says the hunt is begun
And who calls the tune in the court-room
And who beats the funeral drum
The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime
You shuffle in the gloom of the sick room
And talk to yourself as you die

Thanks Mind that is a great piece and now I will put on the CD but I think we should be able to find a way to create a precedent for why the current repressive legislation regarding web casting is inherently unconstitutional and really a bad idea. Now wouldn't it be nice if we could have also heard the song as we read the lyrics? [ph34r]
Oh how easily doth modern man forget that the forum wasn't just for politics and philosophical drinking and carousing, it was the theater of the Mind. It was where Sophocles played, Euripides sang with his famous choirs, and Aristophanes reminded us all of Clouds. [!]
Mind 09 Oct 2002
The music that goes along with the lyrics is quite good, I would say.
Lazarus Long 09 Oct 2002
Hey BJ what about a link up with an already approved Webcaster? Such that we were recievin the broadcast live at the same time. Possible?
Maybe one that is based offshore? The debate is still on the floor about henew standards for royalties to be applied to webcasters. Maybe we could hook up through a University Webcast as an Educational Outlet with live International Conferences interspersed with music. Open debate forums and video baackground for issues involving News and specific lecture topics, or actual subject material.. Maybe we can hook up with a distance learning group for higher level ed?
I just wanted to float some concepts, but I would love more involvement in improving our virtual environment.

Humm, I'm sure this is possible. Maybe when bandwidth becomes a non-issue this could become an optional feature. Personally, I like the quite though.

Here are the lyrics from a mellow 70's song some of you may remember. Seasons in the Sun, By Terry Jacks
"Goodbye to you my trusted friend
We've known each other since we were nine or ten
Together we climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and A B C's
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I'll be there"
Who wants to die when the birds are signing and pretty girls (or guys) are everywhere? Not me

If Everyone Cared
From underneath the trees, we watch the sky
Confusing stars for satellites
I never dreamed that you'd be mine
But here we are, we're here tonight
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
[Chorus:]
If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died
And I'm singing
Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
And in the air the fireflies
Our only light in paradise
We'll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
(I'm alive)
[Chorus x2]
And as we lie beneath the stars
We realize how small we are
If they could love like you and me
Imagine what the world could be
If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died
When nobody died...
[Chorus]
We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day when nobody died
And I thought damn, that is practically a theme song for our group, well at least some of us. Anyway I thought I would post this one and ask for more suggestions for such theme music. I still think that we should make some background music optional around here like they do on a lot of P2P sites.

Another example which I am sure will curdle your coffee is Evanescence's "My Immortal"
"My Immortal"
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
[Chorus:]
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me
You used to captivate me
By your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
[Chorus]
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along
[Chorus]
Which other than the title has very little to do with being immortal except for the part about living through and with emotional trauma and going on. Nevertheless it is another catchy, albeit whiny croon.

"Bring Me To Life"
(feat. Paul McCoy)
how can you see into my eyes like open doors
leading you down into my core
where I’ve become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become
now that I know what I’m without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become
Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life
frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead
all this time I can't believe I couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
without a thought without a voice without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become
(Bring me to life)
I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside
(Bring me to life)
In fact I can imagine a modern version of Dante describing a Promethean torture for a person locked in cryo sleep just above the threshold for consciousness and forced to listen to that tune over and over and over again for eon's before being resuscitated.

I don't know how to live trough this hell
Woken up, I'm still locked in this shell
Frozen soul, frozen down to the core
Break the ice, I can't take anymore
Freezing
Can't move at all
Screaming
Can't hear my call
I am dying to live
Cry out
I'm trapped under the ice
Crystallized, as I lay here and rest
Eyes of glass stare directly at death
From deep sleep I have broken away
No one knows, no one hears what I say
Freezing
Can't move at all
Screaming
Can't hear my call
I am dying to live
Cry out
I'm trapped under the ice
Scream from my soul
Fate, mystified
Hell, forever more
No release from my cryonic state
What is this? I've been stricken by fate
Wrapped up tight, cannot move, can't break free
Hand of doom has a tight grip on me
Freezing
Can't move at all
Screaming
Can't hear my call
I am dying to live
Cry out
I'm trapped under the ice

Who wants to live forever?
First time i heard this song... sounds quite good and builds up to strong chorus. Good song. Don't tell me you didn't sob through that [sfty]
I was thinking of the same song, but with Sarah Brightman for the vocals. [thumb]
I'm a musician but think that a theme song is not the way to go.
Yeah, I kind of agree. We don't want to push away individuals who might not share our music taste (besides, I doubt that "we" have a unified music taste anyway).

Yeah, I kind of agree. We don't want to push away individuals who might not share our music taste (besides, I doubt that "we" have a unified music taste anyway).
I intended this thread as a sort of humorous aside for in house pleasure and not limited to a single genre. Also as people here are thinking about future video efforts I thought it might be nice to have a long list of musical examples of the theme.
People overlook all the time the importance of the meme (immortalism) in the arts and music in particular. I do not intend this as a *branding * effort. Anyway being able to hear the music and read the lyrics is helpful and brings the thoughts and emotions of others into focus, while allowing for both a sympathetic and innovative response. This makes it both more familiar (less strange or exotic) and more useful for conveying information.
Remember that also in each of these cases we are dealing with mixed metaphors that have negative components too and this is a way to start a filtration process for the good from the bad. When mixing music and a message it is good to have a long list to start with. Also we aren't like My space where the music begin automatically when you click the page but that might be an interesting feature in the arts section.

we just need a jingle--hire a pr firm to make one Immoooortali----tiiee Institute! We're here to help you learn how to live a long time.
We could use the Xena battlecry. This one has a cute little "boo" at the end:

Anyway - Martina McBride
You can spend your whole life building
Something from nothin'
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway
You can chase a dream
That seems so out of reach
And you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway
God is great
But sometimes life ain't good
And when I pray
It doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway
This world's gone crazy
It's hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
In a moment they can choose to walk away
Love 'em anyway
God is great
But sometimes life ain't good
And when I pray
It doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
Yea - I do it anyway
You can pour your soul out singing
A song you believe in
That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Yea, sing it anyway
Yeah, yeah!
I sing
I dream
I love anyway
Despite the challenges, objections and fear of making significant life extension a reality...
Do it anyway )

The irony is that these two songs combined are actually quite entertaining to listen to. Much better than the two songs individually.Scientific proof that Nickleback sucks:

"Chocolate Rain" by Tay Zonday
Chocolate Rain
Some stay dry and others feel the pain
Chocolate Rain
A baby born will die before the sin
Chocolate Rain
The school books say it can't be here again
Chocolate Rain
The prisons make you wonder where it went
Chocolate Rain
Build a tent and say the world is dry
Chocolate Rain
Zoom the camera out and see the lie
Chocolate Rain
Forecast to be falling yesterday
Chocolate Rain
Only in the past is what they say
Chocolate Rain
Raised your neighborhood insurance rates
Chocolate Rain
Makes us happy 'livin in a gate
Chocolate Rain
Made me cross the street the other day
Chocolate Rain
Made you turn your head the other way
(Chorus)
Chocolate Rain
History quickly crashing through your veins
Chocolate Rain
Using you to fall back down again
[Repeat]
Chocolate Rain
Seldom mentioned on the radio
Chocolate Rain
Its the fear your leaders call control
Chocolate Rain
Worse than swearing worse than calling names
Chocolate Rain
Say it publicly and you're insane
Chocolate Rain
No one wants to hear about it now
Chocolate Rain
Wish real hard it goes away somehow
Chocolate Rain
Makes the best of friends begin to fight
Chocolate Rain
But did they know each other in the light?
Chocolate Rain
Every February washed away
Chocolate Rain
Stays behind as colors celebrate
Chocolate Rain
The same crime has a higher price to pay
chocolate Rain
The judge and jury swear it's not the face
(Chorus)
Chocolate Rain
Dirty secrets of economy
Chocolate Rain
Turns that body into GDP
Chocolate Rain
The bell curve blames the baby's DNA
Chocolate Rain
But test scores are how much the parents make
Chocolate Rain
'Flippin cars in France the other night
Chocolate Rain
Cleans the sewers out beneath Mumbai
Chocolate Rain
'Cross the world and back its all the same
Chocolate Rain
Angels cry and shake their heads in shame
Chocolate Rain
Lifts the ark of paradise in sin
Chocolate Rain
Which part do you think you're 'livin in?
Chocolate Rain
More than 'marchin more than passing law
Chocolate Rain
Remake how we got to where we are.
Just have a look at the way he leans away from the microphone to take a breath. Life is about breath. That move just screams Life Extension to me.

Come all, let's all sing.
ég er kominn aftur
inn í þig
það er svo gott að vera hér
en stoppa stutt við
ég flýt um í neðarsjávar hýði
á hóteli
beintengdur við rafmagnstöfluna
og nærist
tjú tjú
en biðin gerir mig leiðan
brot hættan sparka frá mér
og kall á - verð að fara - hjálp
ég spring út og friðurinn í loft upp
baðaður nýju ljósi
ég græt og ég græt - aftengdur
ónýttur heili settur á brjóst
og mataður af svefn-g-englum

Meant to Live
Switchfoot
Fumbling his confidence
And wondering why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments
And failed attempts to fly, fly
[Chorus]
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Dreaming about Providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we've been livin with our eyes half open
Maybe we're bent and broken, broken
[Chorus]
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life, yeah
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live
We were meant to live
