Hi All!

I'm new to this forum and had a question about choline supplementation. I take a very basic, low dose approach to supplementation and try to rely on healthy eating for most of my nutrients. I try to eat a ballanced diet with plenty of whole grains, fruits, veggies, healthy fats, and a little anamal protein (not a vegatarian).

I take the following with breakfest:

New Chapter Every Mans One Daily multi (mostly RDA potency vitamins and minerals)
New Chapter Wholemega fish oil, 3 capsules per day (0.6 gram DHA plus EPA per day)
Jarro-Dophilus Probiotic, one per day (5 billion organisims)

I am thinking about adding one Nature's Way Choline and Inositol capsule per day (which contains 250 mg choline and 250 mg inositol). I have noticed that there is now an RDA for choline which is 550 mg for men (and a bit less for ladies). I try to eat a cholesterol friendly diet and do not eat a lot of eggs or red meats. I tried to add up the choline in my diet and it seems that I might be getting less than the RDA.

Unfortunately I usually take Tylenol at bedtime for pain. The RDA for choline is set on liver health I think. It seems to me that getting the RDA of choline might be very important for anyone who takes meds which are hard on the liver like Tylenol. I don't like to take supplements unless it is clear to me that the benefits out weight to risks. What do you all think about choline supplementation? It seems to me that choline is not discussed much and those who don't eat eggs and red meat might be short of this nutrient. Thanks!

Thanks Kismet!

Do you agree that in general people who are light eaters and don't consume eggs and red meats are at risk of getting less than the RDA (actually adequite intake - 550 mg for men and 425 mg for ladies) of choline? It is difficult to add it up in the diet. I have seen conflicting data on this. I eat what I consider a healthy mixed diet with emphisis on cholesterol reduction. I also don't eat a lot of soy products. I wonder why more multi's don't include choline since it is now considered an essential nutrient? What I'm not sure of is how prevalent choline is in the type of diet I eat. Maybe I'm getting plenty and supplementation is not needed.

As far as I can tell choline is similar to a B vitamin and an RDA-type dose does not present known health hazards. I like to take a conservative approach with supplementation.
