It might not be the best food. But is it still okay?

Apparently, they're older than many other types of bread. And the method of cooking them is more primitive. So this would (in itself) predict that they're not as bad as more refined grains. In fact, their GI is around 57, which is decent for a grain.

Hi!

I try to cut out all junk carbs which to me includes any type of flour that is not whole grain. The pita might be slower to digest than a slice of white bread but it seems to me that it would still be empty calories compaired with a whole grain bread. That said it is sometimes hard to eat out and find a decent carb on the menu. I hate having a low carb meal and would probably opt for a pita filled with healthy stuff if pressed.

Whole wheat/ bran pitas are the only bread I eat now. Goes well with homemade hummus or avocado dip. 6 for 80 cents at the local supermarket

However Dr weil says to avoid non organic whole wheat flour due to pesticides and the likes. Also whole wheat flour has high glycemic index

Haven't found anything to replace them yet so still using....
