Already discussed a long time ago on this forum, but good to see a recent update on 9 May 2011 on that site.

It's interesting but many people will find it controversial. Astragalus is listed down with the zero proof group. Glucosamine and chondroitin are conflicting or unproven and yet millions of people say they work and they do.

Most of the balloons had no writing on them for the conditions treated

Placebo and pain. It is a classic. Works for billions of people, even.

You think it's a placebo everytime it works, ha ha, always the ultimate cynic. How about curcumin, fish oil, or boswellia? Are they also providing placebo induced relief?

I said pain, placebo & glucosamine. Just read the literature if you don't trust me. :)

(who wouldn't be cynical looking at the supplement market?)

I hear ya. I am cynical of the supplement market as well, but also believe that there are several supplements that have purposeful function backed by scientific research.

Hear is all the evidence you need for glucosamine http://www.google.co...5bxxfOQ&cad=rja

Seriously though, there are studies out there saying SSRIs are no better than placebo, but I know for damn sure they work for me and many other people.

I get a little tired of hearing that placebo mantra. But I do understand. It's the principle of the big lie, repeat it often enough and most of the people will believe it. Why do I believe it works rather than the scientific studies which purport to debunk it? Because it works for me and for most people I know who have used it.

I am familiar with the placebo effect and I'm as subject to it as anyone else. However, I do know the placebo effect wears off after a while specially if you have real pain. I've been using it for years and it works. I also use chondroitin with it.
