I observed about myself that I don't lack the capacity to elicit brainpower, but I find that its hard to "get my engine going" so to speak. Once I'm in a thinking mode, I can think lucidly, insightfully, and creatively, but these instances seldom happen, and most of the time its very hard to start or sustain being in the mental zone.

What ways do you guys use to activate the whole thought process, planning, manipulating objects in the mind, etc? are there mental tricks to it, a particular activity, etc? thank you for the advice!

I've started learning/practicing piano today after already knowing how to read music and its theory. Felt good energy for the first time in a while.

Things I find help me:

Playing music, meditation, Heat meditation (focus on temperature and breath), 3d rotation, mantras, thought poems (Come up with a poem, dont need to remember it or write it down, just try think of one on the spot). European classical, and post rock also can help.

Are you referring to this:

Normally, one day out of seven I have a day when I’m working at my best – I’ve slept really well, and everything comes easily and fast. Provigil makes every day into that kind of day.

?

It's also called Zen state, i think. I was able to enter it twice in my life, once after a month long camping in the mountains, for the entire day, and once on a night, after playing MOTHER (probably because of the music and the intense concentration), but only for half an hour.
I would love to enter it again in the future, if possible. It's beautiful.

For most people, this state ("being in the zone") randomly happens sometimes. If you'd like to control when this happens, and trigger it on command, you can develop it through practicing concentration meditation.

Not condoning illegal substance use, but Cannabis at times helped me achieve such a state that you're describing (I would generally partake in meditation when I used it a while back, I can't seem to get in the right state of mind/focus for meditation without it unfortunately).
