A very insightful approach. However, why just focus on the billionaires? Why not extend to the general public? But if you wanted to do that, you would have to find ways of effective marketing, and trying to persuade people to invest in the Immortality Project. Why not use all mediums (i.e; newspaper/& or internet advertisement, brochures, flyers, bill boards, public endorsement, professional appointment setters (to get past the gatekeepers of major corporations) and telemarketing. However, again, you need specialised people to design the articles, themes, pictures, ect. NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is an effective marketing tool in writing brochures and texts.

or other variations such as...
10000 * 5000 = 50000000
100000 * 500 = 50000000
1000000 * 50 = 50000000
10000000 * 5 = 50000000
or
3000 members donate 25 and get an additional 10 people (family,friends..etc) to donate 25 each, we will have come up with 750000. Then we put that into an aggressive low cap stock that is determined to increase 50% per year. After 5 years of continual growth, we would have enough to break some serious ground. We’d have many options. Funding, building, researching, promoting/marketing, reinvesting. The possibilities are endless.
We could, at some point, become our own billionaire entity and be a major driving force in the advancement of aging technology progress.
Like Jordan used to say, “hey, it could happen”

From 2005 to now i don't think there was much of an effort to reach the billionaires. What about John Sperling, has someone even presented him our case, or Aubrey's case. Maybe Sperling could hire Aubrey to work at one of his companies and fund him. The only problem is that i'm sure that the payback would take a longer time than the 5 year limit Sperling puts on his projects... But maybe he could open an exception if he knew Aubrey's work better.

I think that Aubrey's TED talk was an awesome event, since I've seen it mentioned by people who've never been exposed to the idea of curing aging

It's really the millionaires that are the best people to look to. Sometimes they've made quick money by being smart and lucky and they realize that they can change the world with the right idea & funding.
But we would have to reach dozens of millionaires to be able to have a decent amout of funding. Aubrey says that his SENS, to be really effective, would need around U$100,000,000 a year. Let's not forget that just because we found someone with a net worth of 10,000,000 that doesn't mean, by far, that he will donate even 5 million. Most people, with deep pockets included, would donate, even to a cause they really believe in, 10%, at most, of their wealth. If we could find just 2 billionaires or 1 multibillionaire (with net worth of 3 billion+ or something), maybe Aubrey could get his 100 million a year, and it wouldn't hurt the billionaire's pockets much.
edit: i mean, if we wait for me to become a billionaire, it will probably take a few decades, and by then aubrey may be too old already and he wouldn't really have much time to complete SENS so we need the money now

Some rich folks are willing to listen to people with 'causes' but the majority are tired of all the requests for charity and just turn a blind eye. They find their own causes to support. In that case, a more subtle approach is needed.

Finding these groups, and doing a presentation to them would help put you in the minds of these wealth managers, and you would be one step closer as these folks typically have a good rapport with the folks you are trying to educate about longevity.
It may appeaar to be a 'round about' way to do this, but when a wealth manager who is in charge of most of your money talks to you about a relevant or interesting longevity program. Their is no doubt, the right folks will listen.
Just my 2 cents

I know this reply is from 2005 but oh well.
Because the general public is cash strapped nowadays. Realistically the average family in the upper 1% in 2006 had, according to this article, 176 times the wealth than the average family in the bottom 90%. In 2004 the top 10% held a 70.1% share of America's net worth. It's kind of like the famous reply given by bank robber Willie Sutton when asked why he robbed banks. His answer "Because that's where the money is."

Also billionaires are increasingly paranoid about protecting their valuables, some even going so far as to hiring security professionals at $400 per HOUR.

Imagine if we can convince these hedge fund managers that they can't take it with them... so why leave.
Just for fun.
