Can nootropics be taken before going to bed? I must say I have a hectic schedule and very often do not take my supplements with me during the day. Would it be beneficial to take some nootropics that most take during the day at night? I heard 5-htp is recommended before bedtime. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I take ashwaganda and glutamine before bed. Ashwaganda has a range of nootropic effects but is also somewhat tranquilizing, hence I take it before bed. I find other nootropics keep me up. Glutamine increases growth hormone secretion (there are others as well that do this).

You should take phosphatidyl serine before bed. I have a PS+Bacopa combo from Beyond A Century, I like it very much. 1FAST400 should be selling a cheap PS supplement soon.....

L-Glutamine is an excitory amino acid so I wouldn't take it before bed. Ashwagandha, PS, 7-Keto-DHEA, 5-Htp, L-Theanine, GABA and of course anti-O's are good before bed/sleep

I also like a combo of 200-400mg Theanine, 200-400mg Bacopa, Ashwagandha, Niacinamide before bed.

I took 3 capsules (570mg, 4:1 extract) of Ashwagandha last night & the experience was positive. Don't know if my congition abilities were affected but I slept placidly. Even before closing my eyes I felt a subtle scintillating weird sensation... a kind of relaxation for sure.

Stellar, where do they sell that combo? I'd like to try a combo with Bacopa.

Thanks,

Chelovd,
That is just a combo I made myself, most of my supplements are bulk powders. The stuff I mentioned in each reply in this thread, they all block cortisol to some degree or another. I am running low on PS, I really need some more and am just waiting until 1FAST400 starts selling it in bulk for cheap as they have promised in the past few months.

What about calcium and magnesium?

Lately, I have been taking theanine, ashwaganda, PS, and occasionally phenibut in the evening and melotonin justprior to going to sleep. The stuff works like a champ. I still need time released melotonin... non-time released is a bummer, cuz you wake up at 4 in the morning sometimes

I rotate between theanine, gaba, timed release melatonin and phenibut. I only take phenibut rarely and If I can't turn my mind off and relax (it works great!) but I understand it's affects wear off with repeated use.

Gaba seams to give me vivid dreams though... anyone else experience this?

Pinballwizard,

Regarding the melatonin... if you're waking up 3 or 4 hours later you may, in addition to getting a timed release version, try lowering your dosage. I believe a healthy individual only naturally produces something on the order of 100mcgs of melatonin a night. Too much melatonin *will* wake you up several hours later so it's best to experiment with the dosage (break the tabs in two if you can).
