Someone recently brought this Indian study to my attention regarding neurodegenerative changes the brain, spine, and nerves ...including lower IQ in levels of sodium fluoride commonly obtained from tap water. The control was by using tap water up to 12ppm and was compared to 20ppm. Forgive me if this has been discussed before as the study was published a little less than a year ago. Also this is outside of my area of expertise, so if there is a glaring hole in what I have read.... :)

One obvious I see is that up to 12ppm is grossly higher than the maximum in drinking water by US regulation. The other being that most of our drinking water here is around 1ppm. Of course that is only as applicable in the United States and not outside of the country... not to mention exposure from toothpaste, fluoride tx, mouthwash, or even fluoride exposure to those of you who are heavy tea drinkers.

most foods and many other products besides the ones you mentioned contain fluoride as well, grapes being one of the worst.

The fluoride has negative side effects only if it is being swallowed through the mouth or after being injected. In order to cause neurodegenerative changes of the brain, the spine, and the nerves, it must be taken for a long time in doses, that are higher than those from the regulations.

The fluoride medications, that the denists use, and the fluoride in the toothpastes, are used only localy, over the teeth and are not for swallowing. When they are used after the washing of the teeth with water, the dosages of the remainig fluoride, that can be swallen are too low to cause side effects. There are fluoride tablettes, that are used for profilaxy of caries, and are being taken through the mouth. However, they are not taken for a long time, and their doses are calculated, so that they not to cause side effects. As for the fluoride content of the water and the food, the recommendations of the majority of the dentists will be to be followed the standarts written in the regulations, since long time usage of high doses of fluorides cause also a condition of the teeth, named "fluoridosis".

I don't like the theory of fluoridating water. Brushing teeth with fluoride - maybe - at least it is applied locally. When I drink tap water, I don't want to fluoridate my brain, my liver, my pancreas, my glands, etc. even if the fluoride is a tiny "safe" amount.

Also I may add, fluoride will be absorbed into the body even if it's used a toothpaste

I personally use toothpaste with fluorides and once or two times a week drink mineral water, that contains some fluoride and do not worry about the fluoride, that gets in me.

However, If You do not want to use fluoride, then You may avoid it easily. Simply do not use a toothpaste with fluoride and dring usual drinking water (not mineral water with fluoride content). If You can't find a toothpaste without fluoride, You may remove the fluoride from the toothpaste by mixing the toothpaste with baking soda before brushing Your teeth.
