Hi all,

I am currently in the process of tapering off all of my prescription medications as I've had enough !!
So much time, money and energy wasted with all the trial /error, side effects, etc...
Plus I want to give my body a much needed rest and try to restore and repair...

I am off most of the prescription meds, and will be off all of them within the next 8 weeks :)

I was wondering what would be the best to take for energy, focus and anxiety. I used to take my "cocktail" of dexedrine, clonazepam, memantine and it worked well but had issues of course. I am not expecting anything to measure up necessarily, but would like some input,

Some options I have researched are;

- Ginseng (siberian, panax)
- MacaPro
- Rhodiola Extract (currently testing)
- Or possibly a blended product such as AOR ortho-adapt, or CanPrev AdrenaPro
- Any other suggestions ??

Also, will I get tolerant to the above? Do they need to be rotated in your opinion ?

Thanks in advance and have a great day

A combination of ALCAR and Citicoline works for me and seems to exactly match your goals.

Good luck with whatever you end up with!

Well they may not be a magic bullet, but here's a list of the most effective supplements (for me) for focus (I have undiagnosed ADD):

Schizandra
Rhodiola Rosea
N-acetyl-cystine
Green Tea Extract
Coffee

I've noticed that you have 3 of these in your regimen, but the important part is to try each of these in small doses and working your way up to the optimal dosage. I really screwed myself over back in the days when I figured more would be better. For example, at one capsule of rhodiola extract I would have great benefits in reading ability whereas at 2 capsules I wouldn't notice ANY effect. Same thing with schizandra and coffee. Though, I've never noticed huge differences in effect from ranging green tea extract dosages. Somebody posted an analogy on this forum that related supplements to a telescope: if you focus in too narrowly (small dose) you will have a blurry picture and if you focus too far away (huge dose) you'll still have a blurry picture, but in the middle you will find the right clairty.

When I drink coffee for focus, I have half a cup. Just one half, and that's almost too much sometimes. Anything over and I will be overstimulated into a nearly malfunctioning state. Regard coffee as a SUPPLEMENT, and the benefits will come from the correct dosage. Many people think that there's a correlation between the amount of cups of coffee consumed and the amount of energy derived; well there is, and it's shaped like a bell curve so more coffee = more money wasted and potential destroyed. Same thing with teas, treat it as a supplement and not a beverage/food item.

Now if you want to talk about drugs for focus I would recommend selegiline (Deprenyl) in doses of 1mg. But titrate your way up and possibly keep going past 1mg if it's right for you.

Finding the right supplements is going to take A LONG TIME, but the work is going to pay off in the long run. Too many times people are too enthusiastic about having their hands on so many substances that may correct a specific ailment that they take all at once in either label recommended doses or excessive doses, and then are discouraged by the results. Dose is key! Work your way up, I cannot emphasize it enough.

Also, supplements can cancel out the ability of each other, so for example try your rhodiola supplement without the coffee extract and adjust the dose throughout the weeks. Taking things out and putting different things in and toggling with your regimen will definitely be worth it in the long run when you know exactly what suits you best.

edit: added a few extra things that I forgot

Thanks satanicat, that really makes perfect sense to me...

Love the analogy and can totally relate..

I always tend to try multiple things at the same time, and then I never know what's really working (or not working).

Plus I don't fine tune the dosages either, which is key as you said !!!

I will start with one of the supplements for now, play with the dosages, and then go from there...

MUCH appreciated :)

...and yes, I "hope" to be here for the long run, so have more then enough time to test and find what works for me. Considering I spent 20+ years on booze, drugs, and prescription medications - - - I can (and will) definitely dedicate at least some to this LOL....
